Marwile watches SAO (i forgot the number in the last few blogs) 2 Part 24 "Wow, just wow" · 10:56pm Jan 25th, 2019
Guess who is on Netflix. Right SAO. But let's ignore bad corporate decisions and focus on the already second-to-last episode, which was -surprisingly enough- really good in my opinion.
But first something I forgot to mention last episode. When Asuna visited Kirito he was working on a camera, which Yui could use to see from the virtual world where they are in the real world and communicate with them. It's important because now Yuuki and Asuna use that same camera so Yuuki can experience a day at school. After that she also asks Asuna to visit her former home with her. There she reminisces about her mother and also a bit about her religion. Might still become important considering the arc's name, but right now I'm not really interested about that part. Yuuki also ends up giving Asuna advice how to deal with her mother by just telling her how she feels.
That's exactly what she does later. Asuna asks her mother to talk with her, but under the condition they do so in the virtual world. After some convincing she reluctantly agrees and enters the virtual world using Asuna's second account (turns out she does own two Amuspheres). They meet in Asuna's virtual home and her mother's comments about their avatars actually got a chuckle out of me. Asuna shows her mother the view from her home, which reminds them of the view from her grandparents' home. They start to reminisce and Asuna reveals some things her grandfather said about her mother and soon tears start falling from her mother's tears as Asuna reveals you can't suppress crying in the virtual world. (Would have been nice if they somehow showed it before, but I'll let it slide)
Also, we only saw her for a few seconds, but young Asuna is adorable.
The next morning Asuna's mother allows her to stay at her school making her really happy. And I'm actually liking her mother a bit now, dangit.
So... I'm not sure what this is, but this ain't SAO. We have a girl coming to terms with her mortality and starting to understand her mother's religious views and another girl facing her mother and reminiscing about their past together to make the latter realize what the latter lost in her focus on success. Not to mention that the episode actually took time for the silent and emotional moments to make them really work and didn't rush them. And Gamer Jesus-kun only had like 30 seconds of screentime max. Can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm really looking to the last episode.
