My Movie Review of Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (Reconstructed & Re-Analyzed)

This is a completely modified version of my review on “Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island”. Along with presenting a greater sense of reconstruction to correct grammatical errors and all that sort of thing, this also presents a combination of my thoughts on the film both when I initially reviewed and re-analyzed it later the same year.

My TV Show Review on Sofia the First · 3:54pm Jan 22nd, 2019

Hey guys! Once again, I have returned.

Today, I shall be reviewing “Sofia the First”.

In this series, Sofia is a young girl who goes from a commoner to a princess after her mother marries the king. Once she makes herself at home at her stepfather's castle, she must learn how she can become a true princess, as well as hold on to a magical amulet where a Disney Princess comes to offer guidance.

When I look back on the times I saw this show with my nieces, I cannot help but find it to be fascinating. However, I can’t help but also feel that it isn’t a favorite to me, nor am I a fan of it.

I just feel like there’s so much wasted potential, and that it could’ve been something more.

The songs aren’t very outstanding because of the lack of catchy tunes, lyrics, and timings. I mean, each and every episode has a song, but, they lack creativity.

Also, with the exception of Sofia herself (whom voice actress Ariel Winter portrays perfectly by the way), as well as occasionally her step siblings and friends, none of the characters are really very memorable, they also just seem to be very flatly characterized and one-dimensional.

On the notes of the performances and casting, I’m afraid that much of the people voicing the characters just haven’t made enough effort to be memorable. The dialogue also just seemed too unnatural and silly. Like I said before though, the biggest exception comes from that of Ariel Winter, who gives her character such warmth, grace, and innocence. She totally owns the role.

As for the stories...meh, they just don’t seem well played out. There isn’t enough adventure in any of the episodes, especially in terms of danger and conflict. There also just doesn’t seem to be enough emotional feel, whether humorous or dramatic.

Finally, it all comes down to the animation. You can tell that the aim was to combine computer animation with hand-drawn animation. However, it feels like the series is so desperate to have the animation be computer animated because of how big the style is these days, and give people hand-drawn animation nostalgia, that, it doesn’t know what identity it has in the technique of animation. I think it would’ve been a lot more original if it was completely hand-drawn, to give it a more significant feel.

Of course, the real aim behind the show was to entertain preschoolers and kids five and under, not people who are older than that. But, even then, based on experiences with my nieces, I wouldn’t recommend it for that age group either. Mainly because, for a while, my nieces had shown interest in the show, but then...their attention just wares off and they go play with toys. Sofia herself and the characters of course do attract their attention, but even they weren’t able to keep them captivated for long.

In the end, “Sofia the First” is and does seem like an interesting show to see, however, once you see it, you’ll find that it is fairly filled with wasted potential to be something more than it is, all because it especially chose the wrong target audience to try to entertain which is preschoolers and babies.

So, I rate Sofia the First a complete 2½ out of five stars, mainly because despite how terrible the show really is, Ariel Winter and Sofia herself are the ones that really knock the ball out of the ballpark.

What about Wayne Brady's performance as Sofia's pet rabbit? Because I think that's another strong highlight in the series since he's a comedian and does superbly well with improvised comedy just like his late good friend Robin Williams.

Yay, I don’t think he was very noticeable.

Sorry.

It's a show for preschoolers that's not really meant to be over the top in depth. personally I thought it was truly a good series for what it was worth

Ever seen this?

No.

And, technically I’m not much of a fan of these kinds of videos.

I’m not sure I’ll be watching this one. :applejackunsure: It just doesn’t sound that interesting. But, we’ll see. Maybe I’ll be bored someday and watch it anyway. I might like it. You never know.
