Mo' Formats, Mo' Problems · 5:17am Dec 7th, 2018
So I think it's about time I get serious about standardizing the writing formats in my works.
I write and read fine with my stories single-spaced with an extra paragraph marker for every scene break, but apparently a lot of my readers hate that. Okay.
The issue is that FIMfiction has been getting worse and worse with its in-browser editor. Or maybe it's fine and I'm just using garbage word processors. I don't know.
I mostly write on Wordpad and Office Mobile, transfer the file over to my desktop, and then just select all, copy, and paste.
It used to work! And then there was a button this site had to add paragraph indents, and then I'd use that, and it was good! But now it doesn't. I'll paste a bunch of text, and have to go through it line by line bolding/italicizing text and adding a new paragraph space manually after each paragraph. Which isn't too bad, I guess, but it's tedious and I'm positive there has to be a better way.
The site says it supports "rich text paste," which will copy text from .doc files and Google docs with all the special formatting, but the site is a filthy liar. When I do it, it just appears as unmodified, plain text with no spaces. I even tried saving the file in Google docs and then trying to upload the file in the FIMfiction browser. It did nothing. I clicked on the file in question and then stared at the empty FIMfiction edit window.
Does anybody know how this works? Does everyone else have this problem? At this point I'd settle for a function or program that just adds a second paragraph to the paragraphs already in a body of text; I couldn't find one. Using the paragraph settings in my current word processors just adds extra spacing between the lines, which doesn't transfer to FIMfiction the way a hard Enter press does. I'm not going to stop writing or anything just because the publishing process adds another hour of hassle to writing, but I'd really like to save myself some effort, here.
I been getting the same problem for years, uploading gdocs dont works for me.
I compose directly in gdocs these days. But I also hand insert my formatting like hr type scene breaks, italics, removing smart quotes, and text size jiggery-pokery.

What about spacing? You can set the file to add a space after each paragraph. Does that carry over to the FIMfiction browser editor?

I have no idea, I habitually space my paragraphs, always have.
My chapters are much shorter than yours, mind you. By almost an order of magnitude. Different scale job.
I also use GDocs, and when I'm ready to move over to FiMFiction, I simply copy and paste the whole thing in. Once I save it (not published) I go through and check to see if I have any wonky spacing or open tags. Once I'm satisfied, I publish.
I used to indent my paragraphs but that doesn't work anymore.
AFAIK you have to use Gdocs, or the manually input things like

for italics, it's been a while though and I only have one story up.
