    General Writing Announcement

    Hi guys,

Just wanted to let you know that I'm going to be suspending my long form fic writing for a bit (hopefully just a couple of months) because...

I'm going to try to write an actual original novel.

    Reoganization under way.

Okay, so, I have decided to relocate my erotica stories to their own dedicated account. So if you see any of my saucier works disappear from this profile, don't panic. They're still around, just in a different place.

Once everything's finalized, I'll let everybody know where they can go to find them.

    Once more with feeling...

So, yeah, I need some financial help again. This time, however, it isn't quite as dire. I just came up short on money for my rent and a couple of bills that get automatically deducted from my bank account. I'm already halfway to my goal, so if any of you could help push it over the top, that woul dbe great. Any amount helps. Thanks.

    Thank you!

Let's Talk About This Timeline Skewing Nonsense · 5:16am Nov 19th, 2018

Okay, so this was just brought to my attention from EQG director Ishi Rudell's Twitter feed.

And the comments on said image have everybody flipping out over two things: Starlight's appearance in the opening number of the MLP movie and the redesign of the throne room in the movie that was made part of the Season 8 backgrounds. How does this affect my personal timeline?

Answer: It doesn't.

Clearly, the original plan was to have Mirror Magic explain Starlight's absence from the movie, but dialogue in Mirror Magic indicates that Twilight and comp[any are gone dealing with a friendship problem. If the movie what was happening at the time, don't you think Starlight would be just a little more freaked out that Canterlot had been fucking invaded? Or, even if she didn't know about the invasion, wouldn't she mention Twilight being in Canterlot running the Festival?

So, obviously that was the original plan, but either by accident or design, that plan changed when the artists on the movie decided to give Starlight her cameo. The invasion happened right after that first number, so while Starlight could have gotten out of Canterlot without being captured, it would be more likely she'd recruit Sunset for help rather than leave for the human world at that point.

As for the throne room, that's all bullshit made by overly obsessive fans who've clearly never seen any other cartoon make unexplained background changes. Maybe it's because I'm an 80s kid and that shit happened all the time so I'm used to it, but the background change is meaningless outside of "Y'know, this movie design is really cool, let's make the show version the same!"

Chill the fuck out, people.

So no, I have no plans to change my current EQG timeline based on this information. It's nice to know that an official EQG timeline exists, but I'm not holding my breath hoping that we'll see it.

Also from Rudell's Twitter feed: since the non musical Summertime Shorts were produced by Boulder Media, the regular production team had no idea Ray was created and they haven't been given the assets for him, so it's unlikely we're going to see him again any time soon.

Well, at least I now know there's a good reason Ray hasn't been seen since his only appearance.

You dont see anyone complain about the fact that Zecoras house has had a complete redesign.

We need to see more Ray! :flutterrage:

Also, not it makes sense why EG has a much different tone than FiM: it's a different production studio. Let's hope Boulder Media's tone for EG gets somehow utilized for G5!

I figured Luna was trying to get those throne room renovations done since her return. She can finally stop looking over Celestia's shoulder!

You misunderstood. DHX still does the majority of the EQG stuff. Boulder was used only for the Summertime Shorts. That's why Sunset was suddenly back to her original outfit rather than the blue one.

And it's still the same writing team regardless of who produces the animation.

:rainbowderp: Wait...the same writing team that does EG also does FiM? Then...why is FiM's tone so all over the place, while EG's is so consistent?

4970670
It's not every writer on the show. A bunch of new ones came on to FiM in Season 8. Plus, without all the fantasy trappings that FiM has, EQG tends to be a more internally consistent world.

You can make a consistent fantasy world, it just takes effort that the writing team doesn't want to give. If you establish the rules of the world early on and stick to it, you can make a great show. The only time you break the rules is when the story demands that they be broken or changed. And even then you need to give a valid in-universe reasoning. This is world building 101. I've yet to see the writing group as a whole stick to this.

I'm not disagreeing with you. You asked why, I gave you a reason.

Honestly, I don't really care how consistent FiM is. It's been going on so long that it's hit the point of any long running TV series: shit starts breaking so stories can be told.

As I've said elsewhere, the setting serves the story, not the other way around.

Personally, I think it started around Season 7.

And you're not wrong. A setting serves the story. But I believe that a story should adhere to its setting to make sense. There have been so many ways to keep the series from going downhill as it has, but that's a rant for another post.
