How is the Traffic on This Information Super Highway? · 4:49pm Oct 14th, 2018
A few weeks ago, maybe a month, I noticed a post on EQD about how some people say the fandom is dying, but then it goes on to point out the numerous examples of fan works still being put out every week. I just shrugged and went on to the next post, not really caring if like all things, interest in pony wanes to the point of 'meh' levels. It happens. Hell, my meetup group doesn't even talk about pony anymore, we just hang out on our day off and play a board game or something.
But it did put something in my head that led me to noticing some of the numbers when it comes to likes/dislikes/watches and so on, which has declined this past season, which in turn led me to wondering just what the traffic levels of the site are since places like this need such things to live.
Now, before you get panicked that the site may shut down because of lack of traffic or something, the paetron is getting about 3k a month, and they have to be getting some revenue for all the adds. The Deribooru site only needs 25+ dollars a day to function, and I'm guessing that it takes a lot more data to host all the animations it has on top of the pictures, rather than pages that are mostly text with a high-quality system when it comes to reading it.
I'm just wondering about the numbers.

Dying schmying. I like ponys and fimfiction. I have other interests and sure it might slow down or maybe have less activity, but do did star trek or str wars when years and hears went bu wihout much happening. Pony is a thing and that thing isn’t going away. It would be tragic if fimfiction or derpibooru went away though.

The fandom is indeed no longer in its prime, but is not close to being dead. Though I hope it never reaches the point where this site is shut down.
Yeah, MLP, in general, has declined since it's peak in the two years between 2012 and 2014, but it's still going strong and likely will continue to go strong for several more years. As it is, Fimfiction has had a fairly stable story and new user output since about November 2016, and it's a trend that seems likely to continue. Finally, if you look at the bottom of any page, you'll see the Stats panel where it shows the number of hits the site gets. According to it, more than a million people visit the site daily. With that number of users, it's doubtful Fimfiction is going anywhere anytime soon.
In an odd way, many pony fics feel more like "similar" works to the main show rather than "offshoots" like most fanfics do with their fandoms... which means that interest in the show itself can die without the same happening for these stories.
Though, in the unlikely case that the site ever DOES go down? I would very much appreciate it if a decent forewarning is given, so I can download my Super Favorites and their sequels directly onto my system... seriously, many of those have become as important to me as series like Lord of the Rings, Narnia, or Redwall ever were!
Well, I'm still here, at least, and have no plans to leave. :)

Hey, when are you going to update Take Two again? Its been about four and a half years since it last updated! Also! Can anyone explain to me why shows like Supernatural go for 15 years while animated shows go for...never mind. I forgot about The Simpsons.
