I've been pursuing in my spare time the questions regarding the movie that I asked in my previous blog post, and it raises so many other questions, like what is the structure of the Royal Guard; and what level of technology exists in Equestria? It seems that the answer to the first question is only barely hinted at, and the answer to the second seems to be dependent on what the writer needs for the story. There are lights and cameras, but what powers them? There are newspapers, but how do they get their stories? And what are those earpieces in all those bodyguards ears actually doing?
This makes things complicated, especially if your trying to decide on why certain things happen in a story. It's like the old tale that starts off "For want of a nail..." How does one decide what that nail could be? And how much can you introduce into the story before it becomes alt-universe? Any thoughts?
