Prince Artemis · 7:22pm Nov 1st, 2012
I have gotten enough complaints about his name and if it IS that big of an issue I would rather change it now before further along in the story. Please let me know what you guys think and any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks again to everyone reading this story. I had much lower expectations for it and you guys have made my whole week.
I like it. Granted I've never read an R63verse story, but I like it. My biggest name issue was with man-chrysalis, and even then I wasn't particularly bothered.
I'm fairly certain Artemis was the name given to him in the other gender swapped universe fics as well.
Perhaps find something that goes with a lunar name more male then female perhaps?
Eh, Artemis isn't that bad. It's not moon themed though. This might help:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_lunar_deities
Keep it up though, I'm excited to read the rest.
I don't get why people have a problem with Gender swapped Luna being named that. But, if you really must change it, might I suggest Prince Nova? It is a night term, and is gender neutral as far as I know.
I'm kinda surprised that there are Any male moon deities.
Artemis does not bother me at all....
In any event, good luck finding a name You like.
edit ... going back and reading the wiki list...
Sin looks like a pretty cool name, Father of the gods / knowledge wisdom etc...
Plus it sets things up for a cool Nightmare name like Dark Sin ...
I like the name Artemis, but the only problem is that Artemis is a goddess, and your character is male. It's okay if you keep the name, but I would suggest changing it.
Nothing that really exists. Goodness, I'd hate to see someone comment "HEY, WHAT'S THE GOD OF <instertthingiehere> DOING HERE? I THOUGHT S/HE WAS FROM <insertculture>!".
Try finding words in other languages that mean "Moon" that aren't female. There's "Mond" in German, for example!
Maybe you can name him Hati, after the wolf that chases the moon in Norse myth.
no change. artemis is the fannon-semi-official name for him
467437 I agree, I have seen Artemis used before, best to stick with it. It would be one thing if this were the first rule 63 (genderswap) appearance of Luna, but it isn't. I don't particularly care for Artemis, but that is mostly because Artemis doesn't match Luna as well as Solaris matches Celestia. dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/emoticons/shrug_Luna_apple.png It would be more confusing if you changed it from the fannon than if you just stuck with it. If you do decide to change it, I would suggest sticking to something greek themed. The words sol and luna are greek if my memory serves me.

Artemis is moon themed, your own link says so dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/Luna_lolface.png .

Nova... I like it, that could work. It sounds better, but isn't as closely themed....
467474 Also, as a reader of the Artemis Fowl series, the name can be applied to a male
467483 It shouldn't be, it wasn't originally a male name in the greek. But we are far enough removed culturally from ancient greek society that it sounds more masculine to us. So yes Artemis can be pulled off as a male name. But I don't remember drawling that into question Still, you are right.
467495 i now quote from book three, the eternity code:
"(to Spiro) And one more thing. About my name - Artemis - you were right. In London, it is generally a female name, after the Greek goddess of archery. But every now and then a male comes along with such a talent for hunting that he earns the right to use the name. I am that male. Artemis the hunter. I hunted you."
467474 Derp, that's what I get for just skimming the male names. I'd always associated Artemis most strongly with the Hunt. I would disagree about following fannon religiously on this. r63 fannon isn't quite as set as, say, Lyra or Soarin's personality quirks. Dusk Shine is immediately recognizable, but Artemis may yet be changeable.
467352 Prince Hati... Sounds cool at first blush, but without knowing the correct pronunciation, also kinda looks like Prince Hottie.
467316 Good idea, just don't use Mond, since it's also the french word for world, as in the earth. Super confusing.
Personally I like Prince Artemis, it is the normally used gender swapped name.
Though I would change the Nightmare Moon version from Nightsomething Nebula into Darkhorse Night, I think that sounds better personally.
Also Chrysalis version into Metamorphosis, but that is just me being picky.
467537 Actually, if he's Darkhorse Night, then the holiday is also Darkhorse Night. That would be too confusing. I'm thinking Nightfright Dark.
Another option, and the original inspiration for Celestia and Luna, might be these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skinfaxi_and_Hr%C3%ADmfaxi
Artemis had control of the moon, and was considered a being of the night, so I find it quite fitting.

Okay, Darkhorse Knight then, and besides lots of holidays are named after people. St. Patrick's Day, Valentine's Day, Christmas, and so on.
469015 Yes, but:
Nightmare Moon = Darkhorse Knight
and
Nightmare Night = Darkhorse Night?
That means that the difference is only detectable when reading it. All of the holidays you mentioned are named after people, but do not have the exact name of the person for whom they are named. February 14th isn't Valentine, December 25th isn't Jesus of Nazareth, and March 7 isn't Saint Patrick. Do you get my pojnt here? I still like the name, I'm just saying that the holiday would have to be renamed. Perhaps as Darkhorse Eve?
469076
Eh I think you are over looking the idea of context. For instance if someone said. "I am looking forward to Darkhorse Night." vs "I am looking forward to seeing Darkhorse Night." You can clearly tell the first in the holiday, the second is the person.
Artemis personally bugs me, but filly fooler and colt cuddler also bug me so I'm probably not representative of the fandom as a whole. I would suggest something that isn't the name of a female goddess, but it is the most common fan name.
I dont get it. simple as that if people are wanting to whine and bitch about names how about guys with the name Susan? justifiable parentalcide right there!!
467537
I personally think it should be night terror nebula
