It wasn't Disney's fault. It was more complicated than that. Remember, Sony reverted the rights to Marvel before a new season could be greenlit, which immediately suspended the show. While its fate was still up in the air, Disney bought Marvel, and by then the MCU was turning into such a Big Thing that the Powers That Be wanted a Spider-Man animated series that would tie into a larger Marvel Animated Universe initiative, and the decision was made to launch a new Spidey series instead of continuing Spectacular Spider-Man.

Don't blame Disney, blame the complicated rights politics that doomed the show and the fact that the MCU became the driving force in all Marvel business decisions at the time.
