Season 8 Finale Theory · 9:33am Sep 11th, 2018
Spoilers for those who haven't seen the finale yet.
First off, I wanted to say I was pretty surprised Cozy Glow had nothing to do with Neighsay, even though they seemed to share similar racist attitudes towards the creatures. But I thought it was a great finale. Interesting they got Tirek in there again. Didn't think they would actually do it seeing as shows can tend to be cheap when hiring additional voice actors. Was interesting to see them expand on Tartarus as well, even though it seemed like a simple concept they just threw out there all the way back in s2 e20.
But anyway, onto my theory. I'm just going to throw it on there that I believe Cozy Glow big plot was originally written with Chrysalis in mind playing the role. For one, it seems strange a filly that young is so evil for little to no reason. But she has the manipulation and evilness to match Chrysalis, it actually would have been awesome to see a changeling being that good at tricking ponies again. Another hint was that Starlight was in the magical ball ready to be sent to another realm for all eternity, a perfect punishment Chrysalis would have wanted for the mare she swore revenge on. And Chrysalis having a connection with Tirek in Tartarus would have been much more believable than some filly being pen pals with him. With all of the pony magic gone, it would be easy for Chrysalis to rule over the ponies once more. Compared to Cozy Glow who wanted to get rid of all the magic because that somehow made her have a monopoly on friends?
But, the writers decided to make Cozy Glow an actual pony, rather than Chrysalis for a few reasons.
They didn't want to make it obvious that Chrysalis was undercover as a filly, but Chrysalis acting that friendly would have been OOC, even if she was just trying to keep her cover.
Neighsay's racism played a big theme here. Having a changeling as the bad guy would have only confirmed his prejudice about the evilness of non-ponies. So they made the villain an actual pony to show even they can be evil. And of course, the non-ponies came to his rescue just to drive home the point that they can be good. Just another shameful propaganda piece by the left wing looneys SJWs over at crooked Hasbro- I'm jk. Totally not going there.
Thankfully, this all means that Chrysalis dodged a bullet, and isn't imprisoned in Tartarus for all eternity being free to appear in every single episode in season 9. I mean, they better do something with Chrysalis if season 9 is the last season of MLP. I want to see some abducted ponies!
But really, they just threw a little filly in the pony equivalent of hell for all eternity. Talk about dark.
I think this makes quite a bit of sense.
Crazy Glue working for Neighsay was a red herring, and I swallowed it. Hook, line, and sinker. Since she wasn't, I'm left wondering what the deal was with the rather on-the-nose implying she gave Flim and Flam Twilight's book, which didn't really lead anywhere.
Good point about Chrysalis and the finale's message, by the way. If she'd been revealed to be Cozy, it would've made Neighsay halfway right at the very least. Now, he was in the right position to learn his lesson properly.

I feel this Finale nicely wraps Season 8 leaving Season 9 open although I think Grogar may make an appearance and it will require everyone's help to stop him.
Nice thoughts. I agreee with your points but therre is another thing with Cozy Glow been the villian.
She is a pegasus. So far every pony villian in greater roles, like movies or seasonfinals (Starlight Glimmer, Sunset Shimmer, Tempest Shadow/ Fizzlepop Berrytwist (hope got her name right)) had been a unicorn.
So now with Cozy Glow we have a pegasus villian. And that is some i like about that. Every pony tribe can be evil ;)
There is the fact the last scene implies she WANTED to be put in Tartarus given her "Hi neighbor Wanna be friends?" *Evil glare as camera fades away* She's up to something, that was just too creepy not to be.

Seeing as magic has played a role for pretty much every villain in MLP ever, it probably would have made a better story if Cozy Glow was doing this because she believes magic is the root of all evil or something. Better than saying she's batshit crazy.
I forgot to add the finale also involved the tree of harmony. The same thing Chrysalis was focused on finding in her one episode this season but we never really knew why!
Gahh! So many reasons! I hope they don't pop in on season 9 and say Cozy Glow was actually Chrysalis all along.
