General Anatomy Question · 8:31pm Aug 30th, 2018
Is it more proper to refer to the front limbs of a pony as forelegs or arms?
There are several excellent anatomy guides out there, I know... but, they part things out nicely, and I mean the whole limb itself.
Would an equestrian or Equestrian say “leg” or “arm?”
I've seen it done both ways. I think both work.
What FOME said. I use “arm” to avoid the stilted and clinical feel of “forelimb” or “foreleg”—and in like fashion, “leg” in place of “hindlimb” or “hindleg”. The diagrams I used as exemplars when creating my own diagram seemed to offer both “arm” and “foreleg” as acceptable terms. I suppose which is preferred in the real world may depend on context and profession.
