    Still working on Midnight Rising...

At the rate of about 800-1000 words a day. That’s my key to getting stuff done that’s causing you issues; just be sure you put at least a little time in on it this day to have some forward momentum. The two chapters are now up to 24,100 words. I’ll work on it more this weekend, at least around continuing work around the maps and battle graphics I’m making for Feathered Hearts.

Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears that it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though.

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

Midnight Rising/C&C update: April showers may bring May flowers...

But of more interest is the emergence of 17-year cicadas in my area. Big, ugly, red-eyed insects that are the size of your thumb but basically harmless, as long as you can get past all the shed skins they leave behind on leaves and the everpresent and disconcertly loud background sound they produce as a mating call. Fortunately, the outbreak in my area seems pretty limited. There's a few around,

Midnight Rising update; Feathered Hearts C&C teaser...

Hey, folks. Here’s my weekly writing update. I’m tagging this as C&C since that’s what the teaser below is about, but the blog is about both it and Unleash the Magic - Midnight Rising.

One final Firefly teaser... · 2:48pm Aug 29th, 2018

Well, folks... I promised a graphics teaser for the new Firefly chapter, so here it is:

You're looking at an overhead shot taken from Bing Maps of a ten-mile stretch of the Grand Canyon not far from the South Rim, for the record. If you've never been there, it's a place that truly does live up to its name. The Grand Canyon is how I envision the Delemare River gorge, and it consists of high cliffs and bluffs that leads down to a plateau, at the center of which sits a sharp and narrow ravine where the Colorado river itself cuts through. It's over 5,000 feet from the canyon edge to the river places, for the record, to let you know how incredibly big and deep it actually is. Here's a decent picture of the terrain the ponies and gryphon forces are confronting:

Note the lower plateau and winding inner gorge where the river sits. That's what Still Way is proposing they use to attack the gryphon assembly area, while Fell Flight doesn't like that idea at all, you may recall from a couple teasers back. What do they come up with? You'll find out Friday.

I will have the Epsilon battle maps done by then, but it's unlikely, unfortunately, that the Raptor ones will be. I'll probably have to put those in later. But the 10,500 word new chapter will be released on Friday morning. Enjoy!

So, is that two individual magus gryphons, or two centuries of them?

Thanks!

Two individuals. Two centuries would be represented by “I” (following standard NATO military map notation for a company) and be just about unstoppable by anything short of Celestia at this point. I do see a mistake on the map now--a battalion should be “II”, not “I”.

In the battles we’ve seen, yes. In plenty of other places, they did just fine. That said, they are primary targets when they appear and the first day of battle is certainly revealing some weaknesses in them. We’ll address those as we go.

PS: I’ve uploaded about half a dozen new graphics to the google doc. Give them a glance if you like.
