My Thoughts on 'The End in Friend' (s8e17) · 8:52pm Aug 11th, 2018
This episode was a very very important one and I loved it to death. Read below to see why.
There will be some mild spoilers, as usual.
Alright, I'm gonna forego the introduction and get right to the nitty-gritty of the episode so I can explain why I like it.
Long story short, Rarity and Rainbow Dash have to team up to solve a mystery. This is compounded by the fact that they had attempted to teach some friendship lessons earlier but failed to do so because they couldn't find any shared interests to talk about. Pretty standard stuff.
The characters were great in this one. You don't really see a whole lot of episodes that feature Rarity and Rainbow Dash in lead roles. They come around, but not very often. There were some good humorous bits, nothing too major, but funny enough. Add on to that some interesting, yet predictable story elements and you have a solid episode.
However, there's an important message this episode delivered. You don't have to have all the same interests as those around you to be friends. Or at least get along with others. This idea has been done before in various mediums, but I think it's rather awesome that this show did it. Why?
Well, I posted a blog about it (I think) a ways back, but I always feel like a black sheep in this fandom. I'm not into gaming, I don't really like computer stuff, I'm not into being by myself and doing 'alone time' stuff and so on. I'm the opposite. I love parties, concerts, sports, skating. I mean, I've always been a people manager at work and I love it. I just feel different.
This episode reminds us that it takes ALL kinds to make up a society and there's nothing wrong with people being the way they are. Per the episode, Rainbow likes sports, Rarity likes fashion and so on. We're all different. Granted, certain kinds of people can flock together. I mean, like this fandom is made up of a lot of people with similar interests because that's just how things work. But, there are also those like me who enjoy the fandom and other different things as well.
Okay, I might be getting a little sidetracked from the point, but suffice to say that being different is awesome and you can still find friends in those who don't see everything the same way. I mean, it'd be kind of boring if everyone was the same, right?
FINAL SCORE: 8.5/10
That's all well and good, but my takeaway from the episode is that both Twilight and Celestia thought it was perfectly ok to bring the Amulet of Aurora to a minimum security friendship school filled with children of questionable judgement, given that said amulet can be used to summon &@#$ing tsunamis.
Okay, I only saw the latest one where twilight and rarity check out the University of Las Pegasus.
How are people an episode, at least, ahead?

Ah
it's okay man. all you need is one bad weekend and you probably won't be that black sheep you feel like you are. though, doubt that it'll stick for long.
yeah, well you don't play video games, so we have nothing in common.
we're not friends anymore.

Yeah well the alicorn amulet somehow ended up to a shady shop keeper so there’s that. That and how deathly is a tsunami . when Pegasi can work together to create a tornado to suck up the water?
