My Thoughts On 'The Hearth's Warming Club' (s8e15) · 11:10pm Aug 4th, 2018
Wow.
I really enjoyed this episode. Like, a lot. It was really good. I'll explain below:
So, this episode was adorable from beginning to end. No two ways about it. It was sweet, cuddly, warm and fuzzy.
The long and short of it is the friendship kids get stuck doing chores because someone created a huge mess in the Friendship School and won't fess up. This pisses all of them off because its the holiday season and they all want to go back home to celebrate their time off with their families. It quickly turns into the kids talking about what holidays each of them celebrate and what it entails while awaiting to find out who did the crime.
I love this episode because it explores the awesome difference in cultures and celebrations that we have in the real world. Sandbar celebrates Hearth's Warming, as well as the Changelings (kind of, it's hilarious how they do it), but the Yaks do their own thing. The dragons do something different (and more, well, dragon-ish) and the Hippogriffs have a celebration that ties directly into the Storm King's defeat! It's awesome!
The episode follows up with a really good reveal of who committed the crime, why they did it and it was honestly rather emotional. Took me by surprise, too. Not until the end was I ever able to figure out who did the do and I appreciated that. Very intriguing.
That being said, there was one element that really sealed the deal for me with this one: Twilight Sparkle laying down the law and dishing out punishment. Emotions be damned, someone broke the rules and they had to pay for it. I loved it!
This episode wasn't about Christmas, or about any holidays really. It was about friendship, understanding differences and being there for those that need us. It was beautiful. Not game-changing, but wonderful all the same.
Final Score: 9/10
It's about time we learned more about the new students and their heritage. I also appreciated the fact that none of the stories were predictably corny, Smoulder's being a great example of that. So yes, even if it aired in the the middle of a very unseasonal heatwave, one of the best eps of late.

Smoulder's were great. I love that they've never bothered making the dragons all friendly and pussy-ish. They're still unfriendly badasses.

Well now that the Changelings have gone the way of all things soft and gooey, it’s nice to see (along with the griffons) one species isn’t afraid to maintain their distinctly un-friendship orientated customs.

Have you gotten a chance to see the other new episode, yet? Friendship University? I'm posting a review of it tomorrow, but would love to know your thoughts if you already have.

I can only see what I can find, and I haven't located this episode yet. But don't worry, as soon as the opportunity presents itself, I'll take a peek. "Thank you, Aussies." Is all I can say.

A good episode, it was great seeing Starswirl and Flim and Flam again but the ending was too similar to Viva las Pegasus in my view. Why would Flim and Flam fall for one of their own scams, anyway? My favourite part was when Film (or Flam?) said "Who are you?" To Rarity even after she removed her disguise. Brutal. :p
