Update on the lost file · 12:53pm Jul 29th, 2018
Well. I tried all the OpenOffice recovery tips and nothing worked. I then used a partition recovery program to try to restore the file. It seemed to work, but when I opened the file, the text was a jumble of letters and symbols.
It's corrupted as hell and I don't know if I can fix it.
And I think I just need a break from this fanfic for awhile. Even before this fiasco, it was a struggle to figure out what to write next.
So I'm going to start writing the “Earth Ponies Are Overpowered” sequel, called “Earth Ponies Are Blessed With Suck.” Stay tuned for details and teasers.
May I make a suggestion? Switch over to using Google docs. It is free, and the advantage is it saves to your google drive every 5 seconds. That way if a doc does this again, it can be recovered.
Also sorry for the frustration, I know how it is to loose a ton of work like that.
It's alright. You're doing this for free. Watch movies, read books, play games, etc... Your readers will wait patiently.
Hmm. So the suggestion didn't work?
...Hey, I've got an idea: Why don't you provide the corrupted file for download, and outsource the problem to your readerbase? Who knows, maybe one of us has more luck?
I mean... okay, I get you probably wouldn't want people to read an unfinished chapter, but ultimately, getting the chapter back would be preferable to not getting it back.

Well, if you're offering . . . What would be the easiest way to upload it so others could download it?

Set up a gDocs account and upload it there. And Rescue is absolutely right - gDocs are the way to go. I am hard on computers and upgrade every 3-4 years since I am on them every day for my website clients and creative writing. When I started getting office jobs with hour-long lunches I migrated all my stories over to Google so I could work on them without be at home. Ideas hit me ALL THE TIME no matter where I am and having the ability to jot them (or entire scenes) down even if I am only doing it on a smart phone sure as Tartarus beats pen and paper and waiting to get home. By then the moment is past and it loses some of the magic as time passes.
And if you are afraid of them getting lost on gDocs, you can download a .zip file of an entire directory and back it up to a flash drive or your computer. It did happen once I heard to someone and since then, well, it pays to be cautious as you learned the hard way.
Oh and I'll look at the file too if and when you upload it.
Hope you get it back. Good luck and remember to always

Well, I use mediafire.com for file distribution, but that one can be a bit slow to load a page sometimes.
Do you happen to have a deviantArt account already? If so, you can just *.zip the file and throw it into your personal sta.sh

Ok, I tried zipping the file and uploading it to both google docs and sta.sh. It just shows a blank document. I'll link to it if you still think it's worth a look.

Go ahead and give us all the links you've put it to. Hopefully one of them will work.

There's nothing there for me either. Do you still have the file that shows the corruption when you open it? If so, upload that to stash and/or mediafire UNZIPPED and post the link(s).

All right, try this one.

It says the page doesn't exist.
Don't give up with your fic.
That file is totally unrecoverable, I think.
I managed to convert it to a word file, but aside from a few calls to directory entries, the rest is all just random video card gibberish.

That's what I got too.
