The Curious Case of James Gunn · 3:01pm Jul 27th, 2018

"There are people who aren't loyal to you, but to what you represent, what you have and when your needs change, their loyalty also changes."
Kristoff Raczynski

For those who don't know, James Gunn was in charge of phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy. However, he was fired by Disney for a few tweets published more than 10 years ago, for which he even already apologized claiming that he has changed for a long time. Disney said that these statements are indefensible and inconsistent with his philosophy and values of the study.

I honestly used to make a lot of offensive jokes. I don’t anymore. I don’t blame my past self for this, but I like myself more and feel like a more full human being and creator today.

Although the tweets were not made with the intention of offending anyone, it's clear that not everyone will accept a humor as black as this one and I understand it. What I don't accept is: why Disney didn't fired him before, knowing this? Why didn't you investigate him before hiring him in the first place? Why didn't he get fired when he generated millions?

How convenient...

Disney agreed to sign an amended agreement to acquire FOX for $ 71300000000. Thus, Comcast can no longer compete and the mouse can keep everything. At a critical time for Disney, a bad reputation at the moment is not good for business, so it has done the most convenient for the purchase.

Politically correct is ruining society, you can't say anything because they treat you worse than a criminal. James Gunn didn't deserve this. For Tweets of years ago people throw their work in the trash, as if everything he did was worth nothing, if there's someone talented and passionate at Marvel Studios in no doubt James Gunn, no one can give the same essence that he gave to Guardians of the Galaxy.

It’s one thing to be an idiot in real life and have a pretty dark humor for your jokes (immature and offensive, yes, but they are still jokes) and another thing is to be fired from your job by one of these jokes, despite that you have changed in recent years (for better or for worse, but we all change), no matter if you were the best in your area.

He had already regretted these comments long ago, he already asked for forgiveness, he said sorry, what else do you want? To humiliate himself? People don’t deserve forgiveness? They don’t deserve a second chance? (Unless you're Hitler, but that's another story). It's for these reasons, just for looking good with the audience (which probably don't give a shit about these topics and their consequences), that many works are getting into oblivion.

This great movie was heavily ignored in the awards season by a similar scandal. Maybe people were right about the attitude of James Franco, but the guy knew how to make a great masterpiece and that's what should matter in the end.

We must be a more active public. Just as there are people who manage to get an actor fired so that they don't play a transgender role simply because that actor isn't, so we should demand that Disney rehire him. And since the company is probably not going to listen to us, the best thing we can do is to not go to watch Guardians of the Galaxy 3 or any Marvel movie (which is almost impossible, considering that no one will want to miss Avengers 4). If we want to validate our opinion, we must press and the audience usually does not press.

But what do you think? Let me know in the comments.
