OK, I was on my lunch break today and was dickin' around on my phone, and I don't know what made me think of it, but I was reminded of an old movie that I used to enjoy. I haven't seen it in quite a while; I'm thinking I might watch it this weekend.
1989's 'The 'Burbs,' a comedy with a touch of thriller, about a cul-de-sac street occupied by residents with too much time on their hands. Some mysterious new neighbours move in, and suspicions begin to rise.
I think this is a fun movie, personally; the type that's not to be taken too seriously. Not the best, by any means, and it does seem like the kind of movie that would have a cult following, but to my knowledge, it doesn't really. (Maybe it does, but I'm too lazy to look into it.) It has a pretty low score on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, but I've come to the conclusion that they can suck it.
The humour is quirky and satirical; nothing too cutting-edge, but what makes this one stand out for me is the interaction between characters. The way they play off of each other here is great, which is largely because of the really good cast: Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher, Corey Feldman, Bruce Dern, Rick Ducommun (that guy who looks and sounds like, but isn't necessarily John Candy), and more.
Anyway, if you find yourself with a couple hours to kill, give it a go.
EBL out.
That part when they tried investigating as guest's is my favorite part.

Ah, you’ve seen it?
That IS a great scene; like when Bruce Dern’s character is messing around with the wallpaper and he ends up peeling a 12” strip off, then he was like: “oh shit!”
Or when he takes the picture from the shelf and says to Hans: “Ohh...pretty girl! She a friend of yours, Hans?”
Then Hans takes the picture from him and says: “No, it...came with the frame.”
