The village of Brightly, British Columbia is a small, isolated place where everyone knows everyone, with a strong sense of community. A community that starts to include colourful little ponies.

    I got ART!

I know I haven't done a blog in awhile, but being a full-time single parent working a full-time job, and a part-time writer tends to really chew into the hours I have in a week. That said, I just had to carve out a little time to show off the remarkable gift I was given from Lady Lightning Strike by way of the amazingly talented artist Pridark.

    Commissions!

Yeah, been awhile since I've written any sort of blog post, but I do have some good news. I'm re-opening to commissions! My patrons on Patreon will get priority for their commissions first, but it doesn't mean that everyone else can't ask for some stories either. Here are my commission conditions:

So... a small heads up about the upcoming month...

I'm about to start writing the final chapter or two of the Brightly Lit saga, after which time I'm actually going to be going on vacation for a week. As in actual time off from my job and all other responsibilities. Which means no Twilight Learned this month, and perhaps not next month either as I reassess things in the wake of the end of writing roughly 350,000 words on one pair of stories set

So... a bit of a heads up

Over the past few years I've engaged in a practice of letting my patrons on Patreon decide what story I should update following the Brightly Lit update in the month, and I've noticed a bit of a pattern. Mainly that anytime "How Twilight Learned" comes up in the voting it easily wins. So recently I asked my patrons if they would like me to just concentrate on Brightly Lit and HTL until one of

    State of the Pen

It's been 10 days since my brother died and 6 since we laid him to rest at the foot of a willow tree near a shady stream. I find myself both functional and numb. I can act, react, and do things, but anything beyond the basics is like trying to push fog with your hands. Something happens but not much. I find myself staring at a computer screen and feeling... nothing.

Here we go again! · 7:10pm Jul 1st, 2018

First off, Happy Canada Day to everyone! I was late to loving my country but I really do love living here. Also, to my American friends, Happy 4th of July, early one that is :) I've yet to find a video that better describes the relationship between our two nations better than this one from the 2010 Winter Olympics..

Second off, one of my favorite authors, Jim Butcher, has been quoted as saying, "I didn't hear that they wanted to buy my book. I heard that they wanted to buy me a new car." That's pretty much what has happened. My car went all 'splodie, and I've accepted another big commission so I can cover the costs. Just like 13 months ago. This may sound bad, until you realize that I've doubled my experience writing since then. I have two very established and in progress stories, and three others that people want to see worked on.

So, going forward I'm going to start treating my writing as a job. When I sit down to write, I'm writing and that's it. No surfing Reddit, no playing World of Warships, no going off on interesting story concepts (Ninja Chrysalis? Damn!), just sitting down and writing. Or alternatively, laying out plots or story lines so that I can write efficiently. So, what this actually means is that you are going to start seeing a lot more story coming out with my name on it. More Mail Troubles, more Brightly (new chapter currently in progress), more of Twilight Learned, the conclusion of Journey, and the resurgence of Slaves to Darkness.

I have the tools, I have the capability, I have the story ideas and plots. Most of all, I have the friendships I've built up over the past 2 years of writing to make this happen.

For obvious reasons my Patreon is now pretty much booked solid, although you can still make a $1 a month continuing contribution to my coffee supply if you like. If ongoing support isn't your thing, you can send me a one time, espresso shot of support via Ko-Fi.

You have my warmest well-wishes. Remember to take breaks every hour, and to get exercise daily. An exercised body is an efficient brain.

"Ninja Chrysalis"

You really going to do that blurb?

Maybe, maybe not, but it is an example of some of the ideas that show up :)

I went to Canada this year for a school trip.
My opinion of the place...
Is it too late to book a moving company?:rainbowlaugh:
In short: I loved it.
Hope your having a good day:twilightsmile:

Nice! Where abouts did you go?

We first went to Niagara Falls and stayed there for a few days. Had a wonderful time there at the Falls, arcade, and the indoor water park. And then we went to Toronto. There we saw the aquarium, and also, for the first time in my life, I actually got excited about a sports game (soccer and baseball specifically). We also saw several historical sites whose names escape me at the moment.:twilightsheepish:

Overall a wonderful experience. One to be cherished.

I live out on the BC coast myself, but I drove the family out there about 5-6 years ago. Going back home we decided to go through the US. We crossed the border at Buffalo, dipped down as far as Kansas, before climbing a slow arc back up to the border to cross back into Canada at the Peace Arch crossing. Really enjoyed the drive.

You guys really do have an awesome country, with incredible vistas and wonderful people. One of the most memorable moments was just sitting and chatting with a waitress at a Sonic in the middle of nowhere. She was a shining, smiling breath of fresh air for family that had been on the road for the better part of 3 weeks.

You guys really have an awesome highway system, and your rest stops simply have no equal. Anytime you want to come back up to Canada, feel free. We have room :)

Thanks for the invitation.
I’ll take you up on that someday
