EU Copyright Directive Still Ongoing · 6:34pm Jun 20th, 2018

Today the EU Copyright Directive which I discussed a couple weeks ago has, unfortunately, taken it's next step into becoming law.

The Good News; I was apparently somewhat mistaken on the timetable and today's vote wasn't the final vote, which means there's still time.
The Bad News; It's still possible and, if the vote happened tomorrow, likely to happen.
The Good News; Public pressure is starting to crack the coalition behind the bill, so if you live in the EU keep calling your MEPs.

Be polite, be well informed, but be firm and unyeilding. Make it clear how (people can't afford those filtering systems, the filtering systems will crush transformative work) and why (UGC websites will fold and the creative aspect of the internet will be swiftly monopolized by IP holding companies which will stifle innovation and social mobility and possibly even wreak havoc on the economy) this is a bad move.

We can't let this bullshit go down without a fight.

Thanks for helping to spread the word about this. It's good that opposition to this atrocity is finally getting some traction. I've written about this too. Hopefully we can spread the word far enough that we can break this thing.

I live in the US. So for me this is rather like watching a meteor coming down, only without the finality.

Maybe it'll miss.

Signal boost, then. Even if you can't stop the meteor, maybe you can find someone who can. Or, at least, you know, convince enough people to duck.

Yep, just finished editing it into submission. And all stories are, of course, backed up. Just in case. :raritywink:
