    Bucket List Results

Remember the spring break bucket list I posted about a month ago? Well, it's time to look at the results. And I'd say I did quite well. Especially if you consider how much I added since the initial post. Who knows, I might be able to cross off a few more the next couple days, as my initial plan to be already playing Persona 5 Royal at this point took quite a hit.

    Goddammit Nintendo

Just casually releasing a new Direct.
And only half-revealing the next Smash fighter. Though I'm glad for the franchise.

Marwile watches SAO Part 12 "Important Plot" · 10:09pm Jun 8th, 2018

You know, the anime fan in me had a great week. My Hero Academia gave us one hell of a post credit scene, I finally decided to catch up on Hinamatsuri (I have to get back at Jetto and his "It's fun" comment), I started and am nearly halfway through Re:Creators (which made the philosoph in me come out), as you know I watched No Game No Life Zero yesterday and today came the newest One Piece chapter 907 and wow... just wow.

And now SAO ruined such a great streak.

We start with Suguha explaining how she got into games as she wanted to know what Kirito sees in it. We also see her talking to RL Recon (already forgot his real name). He has an obvious crush on her and she treats him terribly. She even hits him with her sword when he makes a valid point about her essentially following a stranger.

Suguha gets home and before we have a very important scene where she stands in her room in only her underwear and... I'm sure this has some relevancy to the plot.

In the game they meet Sigurd (didn't expect we'd actually meet him). He's a total douche and I have no idea why Leafa is in a party with him. Well, she neither because she leaves and essentially becomes a renegade. A renegade is someone who left their race and travels on their own. In Alfheim people hate you for wanting a varied party. Before they can start they are also approached by Recon. Leafa is pretty mean towards him although he's only nice to her. On second thought she fits very well in Sigurd's party.

We cut to lowkey sexual assault, so we must be at Asuna. Oberon tells her that Kirito is searching for her and with the help of a mirror she figures out the door combination. That was all.

Kirito and Leafa make a break during their journey and because your avatar stays in the world when you log out in a neutral zone (another one on the pile of reasons why actual gamers would never play this) they have to take turns logging out for RL breaks. Suguha uses hers for showering, again very important for the plot. During Kirito's turn she talks with Yui about love. Both feel like they're watched and Leafa explains how you can spy on someone with magic and animal companions and how they can do nothing against it. And to confirm this only seconds later we see the people watching them.

I've been surprisingly positive this time. Probably pre-E3-hype. If you listen closely you might hear some high pitched squealing on tuesday.

I approve of all of those choices, especially Re:Creators which is basically a reverse SAO- a show all about exploring what it means to blend reality and fiction, how it works, how to exploit it etc. It's weird and I love all the characters in it. Except the main evil girl (dunno if you know her name yet): I get what they were trying to do, but I kept rolling my eyes everytime they pushed me to care. Other than that, it was great.

I've said it before, but this arc of SAO is bad and the worst part about it is that it draaaaaaaaaags on for way, WAY too long. If it was just 3 to 4 episodes and then moved to Gun Gale Online, it would've been a lot more bearable.

Yes, that's also what I find so interesting about it. (Even if it had like 3 episodes of exposition) I'm actually just past where we learn her name and the last I saw was Mamika confronting her and... How did I not immediately jump to the next episode after this cliffhanger... especially because Magical Girl Mamika is my favourite character so far.
Edit: So that's why Re:Creators was never mentioned in Magical Girl Sunny

And seriously, you could have warned me about how real Hinamatsuri gets. I just want Anzu, Hitomi and Mao to be happy.

First, this is shitty game design. But that has been true since the beginning, so I shouldn't be surprised.
Second, I believe this dialogue should have happened:

"Hey, Suguha--"

"Leafa."

"Right, Leafa. I was having this feeling of being watched while we were waiting here."

"You mean you saw somebody?"

"No, I just had this feeling. You know? Like maybe somebody is using a skill or a magical item or something to spy on us but we can't detect him..."

"...How?"

"Well, I don't really know much about this game but--"

"No! I mean, how could you possibly have a feeling about somebody using a MI to watch you in a game?"

"I dunno, it's just a feeling."

"IT'S A GAME! Video games tell things through pop-ups and notifications. It's not supposed to give feelings as an input. That's not how it works. It would be like... Ending the effect of a paralysis using the sheer power of love or some bullshit like that."

"..."

"What?"

"You'd be surprised..."

p.s. E3 is always a good time.

Terrible game design is SAO in a nutshell. I got so used to it I didn't even point out how dumb that was.

I was going to use it as a title, but it was hard to convince myself that it fits the theme. And then I started watching Lolirock and new Card Captor Sakura, so it was pushed away to make place for the more deserving titles.
