Attention to all those special snowflakes out there: This will probably hurt your feelings. So grab your safety blanket / pillow / peacock and be prepared because here is the harsh truth: If you're constantly a massive asshole, someone will eventually snap and you get what you deserve. Anon had it coming, there is no denying that. And "being lonely" is no excuse either. You don't vent your frustrations on others, end of discussion. That the princesses even wanted to help Anon after all that he has done shows their (even if a little flawed) good character. Yes, they "ponynapped" him, but it was an accident. No one can tell me they believe that Twilight and probably half of Ponyville didn't try to make him feel at home. 90% of all HiEs 2nd-5th chapters are just about that.
That out of the way; Why did anyone take anything serious? It is a story with a freaking comedy and Anon tag. It's for fun and the "lulz". My personal explanation is that people tried to "overthink" the story. That there had to be a deeper meaning behind everything and so on. No, there isn't. I just switched my brain off and wrote what I hoped would get a laugh out of my readers.
Sorry to all the others who had to read this, but I didn't want to rant like this in the authors notes. You can imagine why.

I had someone review one of my crackfics. He took it so seriously to the point of insulting and attacking me personally. It's one of the reasons I no longer write.
You made anon the most stereotypical basement dweller from what I read. I don't see why you are suprised that he got sympathy and support from a part of this site's readers.

people like to overthink things, create their own ideas etc, get used to it or GTFO if you can't accept some opinions.
As for the fic for lulz idea it's hard to do, you may as well try making a joke about someone kicking puppies, in the prequel you made Anon to sympathetic and to some degree realistic, imagine being stuck in a world that's a cartoon for little girls where everything has to be bright and pink and you're the villain for just being different.
There you have no family or friends and no access to modern entertainment like TV, internet, the best you will get is a radio or a gramophone.
The way i see it most people would either go murder crazy or drunk themselves to death.
As for ponies helping Anon, no thy're the assholes, Temptress asked them why didn't they just turn Anon into a pony and Cadence just dodges the question, this kind of solution would make the world transition a lot easier for him and he wouldn't be seen as an disgusting ape for them.
Thou i will say you did pull of the ending quite nicely, most of us probably thought you'd keep kicking the puppy.

I actually found all the butt-hurt comments to be really funny until it became a trend and I realized they were fucking serious.
It's pretty obvious that most of them either over-analyzed it (for some retarded reason) or are a lot like Anon in RL.
Regardless, I think I'm okay to speak for all the non-neck beards that this was a fun story that helped us take a break from the daily grind.
If you make a sequel, I'd totally read it.

In all seriousness, everyone approaches writing differently. I like to write for fun, personally, and have made my share of crackfics on this site and others, and got my enjoyment out of it. That said, while a story can be a humorous crack fic, I (and apparently many others) don't think it exempts it from any sort of criticism, therefore, there are going to be people that will take anything that is written seriously, if only within the scope of the universe it's in. It's a thing that will probably keep happening until written word ceases to be a source of media.
The story seemed to go over well with the majority though, so that's pretty nice.
Hmmm.... A fairly obvious statement. Being an asshole will indeed get you hurt one day. Hell, going out of your way to be a good person will get you hurt even worse. to avoid most instances of getting hurt, the best option is to watch other people like a hawk for a month or two before interacting with them of your own choice, then carefully decide whether they will be a good investment of further time.
As for the story this relates to, i'm curious and now have something new to read for a bit before going back to a simple puzzle game and raging at my own inability to solve them in any reasonable amount of time.
Oh wow, the author deleted my comment! I guess the mystery of who was the real butthurt one from this story has been solved.
Remember your moral, author: don't be an asshole, especially when you tried so hard to play off the negative responses to your story. Use this as an opportunity to grow into a man.

And if you would look at the comments on my other stories, I very rarely deleted comments, if at all. I only do that in very special cases. For example if a comment is just made up of insults.
