    IN WHICH HAPPY BOXING DAY!
I meant to post while it was still Christmas (CST) but as usual I’m late. I hope my few remaining readers had a lovely holiday! Here’s a song that’s been in my head lately.

Chuu is one of those who, according to her coworkers, really is just a ball of sunshine. Follow me past the jump.

    IN WHICH I LACK BURRITOS
No, really. I haven’t been by my local burrito place in a long time, partly due to my mother, so I haven’t been able to get good inspiration for another Burritoverse story. Sorry. For now, enjoy my favorite J-Pop group NiziU.

    IN WHICH SCREW DEADLINES
Hey, y’all. Been a few months. Whoever reads this, just wanted to show I’m not dead yet. Do you know NMIXX? You should.

Right. Now, where was I? Oh, I’m sure I’ll figure it out below the jump.

IN WHICH I LIED TO YOU (SORRY)
So… Turns out it's been a full year (!) since my last story. I promised a couple stories in between but failed to finish them. But at least I got my annual Mayor Mare story in. Have some Twice as penance.

More past the jump, if you're willing.

IN WHICH I LIVE… SORT OF
Hi. Been awhile. Not sure who's left to read this. I just now realized I accidentally added an "L" on my last 3 posts. Oops. Well, enjoy Sir Elton.

So, after fixing my screw-up, let's get to the meat of why I'm writing, if you'll pass the jump with me.

IN WHICH I GET CUT OFF
I'm back from vacation and have been for a couple days. Here's one of the songs I got to see performed live.

And as always, Suzuka sounds better in person than she does on the albums. That girl is phenomenal. Anyway…

I write this to inform you that, even after decompressing after interaction and travelling, I may not be able to work much for the next couple days. That's because I called the electrician to check out some issues in my 70-year-old home. Eighteen thousand dollars later I'm looking at a total rewiring to bring the oldest part of my home up to code. Obviously I'm not happy about it, BUT, I saw the ancient wiring and insane breaker box myself -- shit's a major fire hazard, and it will be better in the long run to pay a chunk of change now on preventative maintenance rather than wait for something to go horribly wrong and pay three times as much for the same work. Plus, having redone code-compliant wiring will positively affect the value of my home if I ever decide to sell (which I won't in the near-term because I like where I am).

TL;DR - With my home getting rewired, that means power will be shut off at times, leaving me unable to access the Cloud where I can work on my stories. I'm very sorry about this, because I'm sure you want me to post the end of SRA just as much as I do, but sometimes things just happen. This is a responsibility of being a homeowner.

Also, I'm still not 99% satisfied with The Rejected (total satisfaction is impossible), so I'm seriously tempted to ask for another set of eyes once I've gone as far as I can with editing -- Coffee if he's not too busy, or one of my other loyal schmucks readers if he is.

Finally, why the hell do I see so many people lately writing, "apart" when they clearly mean "a part"? Those have totally different meanings, almost opposite in fact. Just another to add to my "Writing Nazi" miff-list. Sigh.

I wasn't even an English major in college -- I was Political Science & Public Administration -- but I learned to be careful and exact with my language anyway, which carried over into my writing here. One thing I am proud of is that, in my several years of tertiary education, I never once cheated a paper or an exam. All writing was mine. Sure, it took me twice as long as everyone else, but my results spoke for themselves (Dean's List twice, Chancellor's List twice).

Anyway, that's all for today. I'll still work when I can. Just letting y'all know stuff happens.

Peace out!

Eyy man. Sounds like the vacation was good, though egad does that suck about the home expenses. We've been going through the process of moving (selling/buying) for a while now and thus I can empathize at least a little.

Regrettably... and I hate saying this... right now is not a great time for me and prereading. I'm currently in the midst of some RL crunch with moving and other stuff, plus a hobby time crunch with a longer project of my own that I'm trying to get edited for release yet this year. I'm hoping that things will die down in a month or two, but at least the next 4 weeks or so are going to be loaded.

It's good to hear about the vacation, and not so much about the house. Luckily my condo administrator has covered what few code updates my place has needed, but that's the price you pay for independence, I suppose.

May be a little presumptuous and I can't say I'll live up to CoffeeMinion's standards but I've proofread a little for Fourths and I would love to have the chance to do the same for you.

Glad the vacation went well. And damn, I'm glad when hard work pays off. :O

Sorry about the wiring.

Dallas was an absolute blast. Kansas City was less fun due to the concert being wonky, but oh my god was the food good. But then I never expect any less from KC. It really is an underrated Foodie's Paradise... at least if you're not a snob.

That's fine. I figured you'd be busy but thought I'd ask anyway. Good luck with the move and project.

Yes, plunking down a huge chunk of change for electrical work is NOT fun. BUT, once it's over and done with, if these guys do it right, then I'll probably never need to worry about it again. If they don't do it right, then they get to come back and make it right on their dime. I've not put much money into maintaining this place since shortly after I moved in in 2006, so this needed to happen. My other planned project is to get my siding replaced -- my mother also wants me to replace my windows, which are original but not particularly historic. ALL of this work should, in the long term, reduce my electricity bills, which vary wildly depending on time of year. I can and/or will soon be able to afford to do all of this; I just don't want to because I am cheap.

A house is more than just an investment. I've lived here for over eleven years -- the longest I've ever stayed in one place. Since I have zero intention of moving anywhere anytime soon, why not give this old place a face-lift to make myself more comfortable? (there are plenty of houses in my town older than this one -- some well-kept, others not, but 68-70y.o is not new in any sense, and wiring that old needs to be swapped out; siding from the mid-90's that's encrusted with mildew needs to go)

I know Fourths somewhat. chances are I'll contact you in the not-too-distant future. I'll be without internet tomorrow and most of Thursday as my room and the room where my router is get rewired unless I actually go out to a place with wifi.
