    Words in print

Recently, I've been asked for permission by Avonder to include Whom The Princesses Would Destroy... in a story anthology he's putting together. I'm not one for hoarding words and I gave it quite, quite gladly.

    You'll find it here.

    Now(TM) with Travel Advice

I'm safely ensconced in my hotel room in Ludwigsburg. Hope to meet at least some of you. To increase the odds of this happening, I offer the following advice:

    Soon(TM)

I will be flying to Galacon 2018 in under twelve hours and I expect I will be safely in Ludwigsburg within 24 hours. I will be hard to contact during this period, though I think I've acquired a method of fool-proof Internet access no matter where I am (aside from six miles straight up, of course).

Hope to see many of you soon!

    Happy July 20th!

...or July 21st, depending on your timezone.

49 years ago the first manned Moon landing was accomplished. It is one of my favorite moments in history (To learn about my favorite you may have to wait for December the 9th), and to celebrate I've re-edited Hoofprints to be a little less... ah, draft-y.

POST EDITED WITH NEW DETAILS

Not quite an awesome blog post for my #100, but needs must.

Currently the odds of me attending Galacon 2018 (on the 28th and 29th of July, Ludwigsburg, a, I am reliably informed, gemütlich little town just north of Stuttgart) hover around 90%. 98%. The 10% 2% breaks down to:

1% — I have emergency things I have to do. The reason I have waited so long to make these arrangements is that this number used to be around 30-40%. Also I needed to acquire what, for me, is considerable funds to go. Redactedstan ain't exactly rich.
1% — The Universal Hit By A Meteor Quotient
8% — Can't Find A Hotel, No Seriously Just Can't. Turns out having waited this long due to work (mostly thesis, but also other sometimes even more annoying factors) I have ended up with nowhere to stay. This is worrying and if I can't resolve it with the travel agency I'll be using I may be forced to, rather stupidly, miss out. But I'm hoping that won't be the case. I've booked myself a room from Wednesday the week of the con to Tuesday the week after. Plenty of time, I should think. It's not in the Con's semi-official hotel, but it is within walking distance of the city center and appears to be a very nice and highly-rated establishment.

Anyway, given that I will probably be there, I was wondering if my subscriber list hides a few fellow Galacon goers, and, if so:

1. If you are interested in meeting up for... whatever they drink in Ludwigsburg. Seeing as it is southern Germany, likely pilsener of some description.
2. If you are interested in the above, when about do you plan to be in Ludwigsburg? I need to adjust the length of my stay to maximize hanging-out time before I make a desperate attempt to find somewhere to stay. Though I make no promises because... have I mentioned I can't find a hotel? No more stay synchronization, but I'll be there a good long while, so I'd still like to hear who's around and wants to hang out.

Heyo! Am a Galacon goer, currently considering both hotels and AirBNB options. I'd be very up for pilsner with yourself and others. Likely arriving and departing Ludwigsburg to allow a full day of hanging-out on either side of the con.

Superb! I am considering the day-on-either-end option myself and will, unless I get feedback sooner probably go for that. I wish you the very best luck even though you are competing with me for the last room south of the Baltic, apparently

I am also horsecon 2018 in the german place

I will be there for about a week or so

Lovely. So will I, it turns out. Well, a bit less.

Yay! Congrats on finding a place to stay.

I shall be there from Friday till Monday. Got rooms too at walking distance, and considering the place we found sports similar characteristics as the one you described, there's a not null (even if not incredibly high) chance it may be the same.

If it is really close by, then no. If it is something like 2km away, then odds are _excellent._

4858341 One of the advantages of Google Street View, if the area has been mapped. When I was getting ready to book my room in the other hotel (first was sold out) for EFNW, I opened up my browser and "Looked around" the area to see if it was convenient.

It was. :)

Did the same thing when looking for rooms at Disneyland. Found out that 'Quality inns and suites' was not exactly A+ for comfort, but it was quite literally next to the Disneyland parking lot. Three days of "Wake up, go to Disneyland, come back and collapse, repeat" I'm not even sure what the room looked like.

Would you believe that the whole of Ludwigburg is not on street-view? Weird.

4858354 Like something out of ancient history, I guess. Do they have running water?

(I kid, I kid. Seriously, I knew somebody from the east coast who attended K-State here and wondered if we still had Indian attacks. I told them only during football season, because our town high-school basketball program stunk.)

I spoke to a tourist in Barcelona who was floored, floored that they had chips! Lay's, no less!

He did not improve the reputation of American tourists, I must confess.

Planning on being around for the con weekend at least before spinning off into sightseeing after the close.

4858360 Be sure to report on the quality of Big Macs in Ludwigsburg.

...wait, have you ever had a Big Mac?

4858429
I did, yes, something like... fifteen years ago or so? I vaguely recall that I did not enjoy it. I'm not much of a McDonald's person, I must confess.

Wish I could be one of the cool kids going to the cool kids con over there. You are one of the people I'd love to meet in person, just for the experience. Hope you have lots of fun!

When I was working in America I dealt with a little old lady(tm) who was amazed to find out that English people had coffee. And drank tea. And that Americans were drinking it wrong. I hasten to point out that she was a very nice little old lady, and was doing her best to make a foreigner welcome in her country.

Alas, I will not be at Galacon so will miss the chance to meet you. I'll have to blame Brexit.

Not going to either of the July 28-29 cons this year, unfortunately, owing to employment fallout and vacation juggling. :/ Here's to hoping we maybe get a second chance to meet someday!

I will be there from Friday till Monday. Hope to meet you.
