Featured. Again. It has been featured a second time. · 3:49pm Apr 23rd, 2018
For a total of, oh, 5 hours. Oh well.
Thanks for the feature. I appreciate it.
Of course, you don't know whether or not I'm just saying this because I felt I was supposed to say something. You will never know.
Now, you may think I have nothing else to say. That would be a very reasonable assumption to make. I could talk about... uhm... uhhhhh...
<Runs away>
The way the feature box works, is the first time a story is featured, it is placed in one of the top seven spots, and then stays there for a total of four days. The bottom three spots are all reserved for previously featured stories. When a previously featured story updates, it's placed there for a few hours or until another previously featured story also updates. So if you've been previously featured, every time you update again you should pop up in one of the bottom three spots for a few hours.

Oh, well that clarifies things. Thanks m8.

Welcome. Before seeing this post I would have thought you'd known how the featured box worked beforehand. You've been on the site longer than I have.

Actually, hitting the featured box is not automatic, nor does a story retain it's spot for only a set time duration.
While i expect there are certain inbuilt minimums worked into the algorithm behind the Featured box; the primary factors controlling it, are the concurrent viewer count (that little number next to an eye, that appears on the top left corner of every chapter page), as well as the stories like/dislike ratio.
Once the story gets up on the box, it will remain there for as long as it can retain a high number of active viewers, and avoid being overtaken by other contenders.

I think you're wrong on that. I've never seen a newly featured story remain in the box for more than 4 days. And the bottom three slots cycle in and out of different stories mutiple times a day as ones that have been featured before are updated again.

I'm pretty sure i've seen several stories hold onto their first time slots in the featured box for a week or more, their position may shift up or down in that time, but the longer they consistently pull high viewer numbers, the longer they stick around up there.
During Queen Sanguine's marathon run of writing Necromancy for Foals; she would often forewarn us on the Discord server several minutes in advance of uploading a new chapter, and some of us made an on again off again game of seeing how long the delay was between her posting the new chapter, and N4F popping back up on the featured box. Earlier on it could take upwards of half an hour as near as we could tell, though as that story drew in an ever more massive quantity of readers, the later chapters starting hitting the featured box faster and faster, until they where reliably showing up there within 2-3 minutes of a chapter being posted.

And I'm pretty sure you're wrong. However without a staff member coming in and settling it, we are at an impasse.

As of thirty second ago when i last checked, i see one clop-fic in the featured box, that's still there after i first noticed it up there, five days ago.

So you claim. You are not staff. Ergo, I shall ignore your claim until such time that you are.
