Character Bios · 3:40am Apr 21st, 2018
I have a lot of ideas whirling around in my head, so I’ve decided to throw a few character concepts at the wall and see what sticks. Here are a few ones that I’ve come up with so far. Some of them may contain mild spoilers for different stories I have planned, so be warned.
Nargus Cugio
An anthropomorphic beastfolk with attributes of a black panther, a corvid, and a wyvern, Nargus has spent most of his life in Klugetown working under the clutches of the crime boss and slavelord Verko. He views the world through an especially jaded lens, as despite his repeated efforts to escape a life of mob violence, he always finds himself being dragged back in.
Nargus specializes in hunting targets who evade their debts and bringing them to Verko as indentured servants, but he isn’t a stranger to the occasional assassination. Though he prefers to work using a variety of tools and weapons geared towards quick, stealthy captures, his sharp claws and spiked tail make him a dangerous foe in close-quarters combat. A pair of webbed membranes beneath his arms allows him to glide in the air from an elevated position, making him well-suited to ambushing targets from above.
Kusha Irongale
A teenaged dragon with massive wings and scales made of a thick, steel-like metal. She is the daughter of the legendary elder dragon Daora Irongale, who was banished to the uncharted land south of the Great Iceberg Barrier 4,000 years ago after a failed attempt to claim Dragonlord Thorn’s title in a duel. Kusha was raised from birth with the expectation that she would one day surpass her mother’s ability and defeat the Dragonlord in single combat, fulfilling Daora’s legacy in her stead. Not satisfied with the brutal training and controlling demands her mother made, Kusha immediately left the frigid Southern Continent after her first molt.
Seeking to find her place and define life on her own terms, Kusha eventually wound up in Klugetown. Trained extensively in her natural abilities, she found herself working as an enforcer and mercenary on Verko’s behalf, and formed an odd friendship with Nargus. She is frequently assigned with Nargus to deal with more dangerous targets, though her clanking scales and tendency to trip on her second-hand wizard robes make it harder to approach a target undetected, much to Nargus’s chagrin. What she lacks in stealth, however, she makes up for with her incredibly potent magic, as her winds can rip through solid stone and deflect almost any spell sent her way.
Alto Mandragora a.k.a “Mandrake”
A flannel-clad singer-songwriter with an acoustic mandola and an enchantingly smooth voice, who quickly gained a large fan following in the aftermath of the Phyrexian Invasion of Anthropia. He seems to view most of his fans as curiosities, often expressing in interviews his fascination with their ability to “evolve beyond life’s boundaries.” Oddly, he hasn’t been involved in anything even approaching a public controversy, despite being signed to a record label infamous for pop stars that get into protracted public feuds with each other. While his songs are musically upbeat, they almost always have a theme of melancholy in their lyrics, often delving into matters of alienation, isolation, and self-loathing.
His appearance is unremarkable, his teal skin and green hair otherwise difficult to distinguish in a crowd. However, those that pay close attention to his eyes have frequently noticed something distant and otherworldly within them, many of them describing a “spark” of musical inspiration gleaming in his pupils. Despite his mildly hipster-ish yet somehow boring fashion sense, he is never seen without a very gaudy ruby ring on his left hand.
Hmm. That last one is especially interesting. Raises a number of questions, which is part of why he's so interesting.
