Smashmania: Mechanics · 3:43pm Apr 12th, 2018

Before starting, I warned you: this is not a post about which mechanics we'd see in Smash for Switch. It's more like why people want to change the mechanics, although it's obvious it won't happen (and if they did happen, won't be that impressive).

It's no surprise that people despise Brawl for "not being Melee" and that Smash 4, although made the mechanics better, neglected other game modes such as the adventure/story. The truth is I like to play Smash for the love of the game, to take all these iconic characters and the gameplay alone will be enough for me. I don't disregard the competitive aspect either, I enjoy Smash 4 competitive scene (even if there's tons and tons of Bayonettas and Clouds and killings at 30%), however, I can't enjoy Melee competitive scene. It's too plagued of Foxs, Falcos, Sheiks and Marths and it has great moments like this.

But also moments like this.

I've seen videos of people wanting to change mechanics, to add wavedash, shield stun, DACUS, rage or an energy bar system (similar to the one in Playstation All-Stars) that allows the characters to use the Final Smashes without the Smash Ball. Some sound great, some sound dumb, but the truth is...

It won't happen. Ever.

This is because Sakurai feels resentment for Melee competitive scene, that's why we have Brawl and Smash 4's slower but more detailed gameplay. We'll probably have a change in mechanics when he's no longer involved in any shape or form in the series. So please, stop begging for mechanics changes.

But what do you think?
