Horse Gods? Horse Gods. · 12:13am Apr 11th, 2018
I may write a Dr. Turner’s Notes entry in the future on the various deities that were worshipped in pre-Equestria, before religion in general fell out of favor, eventual quasi-religious reverence for the Royal Sisters notwithstanding. For now, here are the general concepts of these deities, in card form:
Huh. Every pony god is red. Interesting.
In any case, Epona seems incredibly difficult to turn on, though the payoff she gives token swarms makes her debatably worth it. Freyr seems almost impossible to turn off, unless someone's rude enough to run Armageddon effects, and that landfall effect... Yikes. Boreas has a similar issue given enough snow lands. Still, at least that makes them effectively five-drops. Mithras is tricky, but I do like how he's self-sustaining. And Poseidon... It deeply amuses me that Poseidon could go active if a flying Vehicle gets crewed. I'm imagining him pulling the Weatherlight into battle, and it's a glorious mental image.
The designs end up feeling a bit clunkier than the Gods of the Trials, since their abilities don't get you closer to turning them on, but they're certainly evocative.

I initially wrote his effects as working with any lands rather than just basic lands, but I figured that was too broken. With his abilities only working with basic lands, I figure it becomes substantially more difficult to actually activate him, given that most tri-color decks that are remotely competitive will be running just as many nonbasics, if not more so. In Commander, his triggered ability might be easily abusable with land-based combos, but that’s already the norm for Gitrog Monster and Titania.
Boreas I figured would be even less of an issue given that snow permanents are incredibly uncommon and likely won’t ever see print again after Coldsnap. If we’re talking about Commander, then the amount of snow permanents you can run with him that aren’t lands is only eight, so it’s even more difficult.
I figure these cards could use some balancing, but I probably won’t have space to fit these into any of my stories, so I dunno. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

they're also all white.

I am of the opinion that red/white is the color combination that’s most prominent in the series’ core ethos, so make of that what you will.
GIMME THAT POSEIDON
WIZARDS OF THE COAST PLEASE WE NEED MORE BLUE RED WHITE CREATURES
Mithras doesn't have any way to turn itself on. Usually wizards give gods at least one way to activate themselves, especially foe the limited games. Maybe give it a prowess trigger wich makes you gain life?
Oher that that, they are all awesome. They do seem a little overpowered, though.

Just an observation.
