So Let's Talk About the Recent Magic Story · 3:09pm Mar 27th, 2018
In the most recent Magic Storyline segments, we get some interesting bits of character development for the main Gatewatch members, but a couple parts of it might pose some problems for what I have planned for the MLPlaneswalker series,
after the initial quadrilogy is completed. Namely (spoilers below)...
- Nissa is quitting the Gatewatch (at least for now)
- Chandra is leaving to do her own thing.
This has basically all but forced me to significantly re-write how Twilight will eventually meet back up with the Gatewatch after the first four MLPlaneswalker stories are completed, and may also significantly change how the character dynamics will work in the future.
I will say I very much like how the Dominaria story is going, and judging by some of the leaks I'm most excited about the prospect of Teferi joining the Gatewatch and how that will be reflected in future MLPlaneswalker chapters, but we'll have to wait and see exactly how that pans out.
We loose a Green and a Red and gain another Blue....not going to lie, I think this is bad for the Gatewatch.
Given that Liliana and Ajani are barely there half the time, Although perhaps that is about the change, given that Nissa left due to Liliana getting re-admitted. It means the Gatewatch is lacking in the most free spirited, and controlless parts of the group.
Jund was considered the ultimate plane of Freedom for a reason. Survival of the fittest, but if you were strong, you could do what you wanted.
Being predominantly Blue and White is going to favor certain solutions, including intervention where its not needed, overly elaborate plans (especially given Teferi and Jace bouncing off each other) and a strong favoring of Order and laws. And given the nature of Liliana, unless said plan directly interferes with her goals, she isn't going to go, "Ok, guys, are you sure we can't solve this problem with ghostfire," or "Are you sure you are not restricting the natural world to much here." or even, "So, is this even our problem? And if so can it be solved by talking?"
I mean yes, Gideon is white, and white can do talking, but Gideon favors a more direct approach. (All of the Soldier Tokens) He won't draw the group away from the pointless complexities that Esper style governance favors most of the time.
I bet a certain doctor will be quite excited to meet his mentor again.

Gatewach is the new Azor then?

Well if you look at the colors, basically yes.
I would call it Esper more because Liliana is going to have some influence (especially due to Jace's feelings about her) but the difference between Azor and Esper is the drive to self improve, be it skills or lifespan.....and a love of artifacts.
Neither of those is going to be counter to the Azorian nature of the Guildwatch now. Especially since it literally has a dominant colour now.
And Twilight won't help that. While she brings red to the table, red is her tertiary colour in many respects. Just like Ajani has both straight Green versians of himself and Red Green Versians, in the right situation, Twilight is going to shift pure Blue/White.
Sunset Shimmer would help though. Red Primary with White and Black secondary,
Of course in commenting here, I have learned some new stuff. Jaya Ballard is currently hanging around Gideon, so thats Red. Still I would have liked some Green. The easiest way to get that would have been Huatli, but she is currently busy making Artifact dinosaurs on Kaladesh
