Taking a shot at this kind of reviewing thing. I’m no analyst or professional. Just a guy telling you all what I thought of things. Let me know if you like to see more:
The Short
MLP tackling racism? Well done. Chancellor Neighsay looks to be a promising recurring villain that’s for sure.
The Long
Alright. Season 8 Premiere. This was honestly a good start to show the future of the show. Expanding the kingdoms culture, giving us new characters and has the promise of returning Tempest Shadow.
That’s a plus in my book.
But, yes, how they tackled the racism was certainly interesting. It’s nothing we haven’t seen before but I liked how they showed us that even though the unifying different species under a common goal shows growth as characters - not everyone will be pleased, especially those stuck in their ways like Chancellor Neighsay.
Speaking of, again it’s not any kind of cliche character we haven’t seen before, I swear I know that voice from somewhere. I’ll have to go back and have a little look.

Outside of that, we got to see how all the main six show how much they have grown, special shoutouts to Spike and Starlight, they’ve definitely shown how much they have grown as they have their moments to shine.
As for the new characters, I liked em. Favourite?
Smolder. She’s just a delight.
