IN WHICH I DO A PROJECT & WRITE
Now that I have a new lappy, I need to get all my music - over a hundred albums, many of which are on physical CD - burned onto my 1TB external SSD... using an external optical drive... the lappy merely acts as a go-between. Lately I've been thinking about the writing process again. Click text for insights of a crazy man?
First off, even though I'll probably post this again once the story is completed, I'd like to take the opportunity to post this Matthew Sweet music video: the title song of his most famous album, "Girlfriend" (fyi, the anime is Space Adventure Cobra).
Why did I embed this? Well, as any of y'all who have actually read the Recovery Arc know, as the months in-universe drag on, Rarity develops a massive crush on Sunset Shimmer. Sunset of course is absolutely oblivious, because in my world there can be no true happiness -- a philosophy I've had since long before my now-former girlfriend dumped me. I genuinely like her new husband; he's a great guy that in literally any other circumstance I would get along with famously, but while liking him I also want to see him crushed with a steamroller or his gaming rig blow up in his face.
I think I've mentioned before I'm the jealous type.
So, as it turns out, is Rarity.
I've found that sometimes a story will work best if you kick back and let the characters take you where they want to go. Yes the plot can slow down and meander, but for a Slice-Of-Life, you kind of want that. New OC's I never expected to exist just appear as the story wills it. Sunset talks to a man who gets some characterization in the process of Sunny finally revealing some of her past, and Rarity gets huffy until Sunny asks the guy about his family. I never expected that. A few minutes later, Rarity has a conversation with a man I meant to create, but not the way he turned out, and they have a short conversation in French! I don't know why. It just happened. I think I was thinking of, of all things, A Goofy Movie.
Suicidally depressed Sunset is cathartic to write, and I'm paradoxically glad that so many people "enjoyed" or at least grokked her low points. If I'm making you feel something through my words, I guess I'm doing it right. BUT, when Sunset is "up", she's turned out to be snarky as hell and is honestly a blast to write for. It's also a lot of fun to write Rarity's jealous overprotective side.
My official word on my EQG-verse's Rarity is that she is not homosexual. She is attracted to men… but is also attracted to and obsessed with Sunset to the point I could call her "Sunnysexual". Pity they're around eight years apart in age (although Rarity hasn't realized it yet in-universe no matter how many clues Sunset drops -- guess Sunny isn't the only oblivious one).
I was really hoping to have Sparky finished by now, but the characters themselves want to take their sweet-ass time, and I'm going to let them for now.
Well, that's all for now. I haven't had supper yet due to a huge lunch, so I'ma eat.
Peace out!
