Getting Back Into Gear for the Final Chapter · 9:11pm Feb 26th, 2018
It's been a month since I've released the latest chapter of An Apple Alone. After the release (which was built upon many hours of finishing the draft, editing, re-re-re-reading, etc.), I needed a break from the action.
But I'm not dead! I just needed to step away from writing for a bit after diving in once more. It should be pretty easy for me to get the final chapter done faster than the previous one (4 years...). That said, I of course do not want to leave the finale hanging that long. I'm not going to confine myself to any set date or deadline for getting the final chapter written, but rest assured that it will not be a "years in the making" affair again!
Although I took a break after finishing the previous chapter, I already had an outline for the final chapter sketched out (the story in general already benefited from this). I also jotted down ideas and notes for the final chapter as I wrote the previous one. My point is that I won't be starting from scratch.
What I am going to do, though, now that it's been a month, is start things up again. Nothing major or back-breaking (unlike Apple Bloom's recent workload), but a trickle to get the juices flowing again. If nothing else, I'll be making regular heartbeat-like blog posts to keep folks in the general loop. Those posts might just be "hey guys I didn't do anything this week / kept normal pace", but the goal is to verify that I'm not only still alive, but active writing this as well!
I appreciate all the kind words that were sent my way when I posted the latest chapter. However few they were, each one reminded me that there are still folks out there willing to read my silly words, and they serve as inspiration. I'm hoping that as we get to the end (finally!) we can exit on a high note.
At your own time, sir. At your own time.
I had meant to re-read the story from the beginning, but have not yet put myself in a place where I can enjoy it... So, on your time, I want to say again that An Apple Alone is one of those vastly underappreciated gems. I may be biased from my own background, but the low-key and high-stakes situation is not the kind of story one finds every day, and you've really pulled it off. It is with pleasure and pride that it has sat among the 'most intensely anticipated' showcase on my user page for years. It will be a bittersweet triumph to finally see it through to the end.
Glad you're getting back in the saddle mate~ Good to see you again!
