Horror Gaming: Zelda 3 Prototype Review · 3:58am Feb 15th, 2018

A new edition of Horror Gaming is up as this time I will be checking out the Zelda 3 Prototype Creepypasta. During the 90s, years after A Link to the Past's release in 1992, there was a rumor of Nintendo having a NES beta of Zelda 3. Its been assumed according to this rumor that Nintendo could've been testing an early concept for their next Zelda game. However, many have always thought the reason this got scrapped is because of the Super NES and how its ideas got moved to ALTTP in 1989. Unfortunately, despite how awesome that actual sounds that Zelda 3 might have saw some development, this is in fact false. Meaning, there was never a NES beta of Zelda 3 as in 2005 this rumor got debunked by the Hylia.com. In the article, they explain that a man claimed he had the original beta for sale and try to pass it off as the truth. The man even made a mock up image of Zelda 3 in a red font that he loaded to an NES cartridge so he could display it on an old CRT TV.

As it turned out, the Hylia showed evidence that the concept was no more then a thought written on a scrap of paper. In fact, you can still find the article which I will link in the review and even posts a various message boards from 2005. Honestly, its a shame the rumor wasn't true especially when the story gives us a good idea what Zelda 3 could've been like on the NES. I remember a while ago when I was searching for information on this topic is when I discovered a message board of someone showing off Zelda II in a overhead style. It just makes you wonder what if Nintendo actually made Zelda II in that manner. Interesting enough the style does in fact look brilliant using the graphics from that game. As for the story, it is about a man shopping for broken Zelda NES cartridges so he could make them into a harmonica for his friend. That's when he goes to one of those second hand shops in his area and discovers that the store owner had a copy of the rumored beta. So will this end up being a unique rare find or something the man should have declined in buying? Come in and find out...
