thingservant (n.):
The changeling you keep on staff to turn into whatever inanimate object you need that you put down somewhere obvious, now can't find, and swear was there just a moment ago.
(Most households have to replace changelings in the role of thingservant every couple of years, since a steady diet of intermittent bursts of intense gratitude and relief tends to cause the formation of fatty plaques in, and eventual calcification of, the splanch.)
At least their squeedlyspooch remains healthy.
So, how many of these misplaced objects never actually existed in that home, and are provided solely (unknowingly to the inhabitants) by the changeling that is constantly asked to imitate the (nonexistent) original?
For that matter, how do changelings imitate things like a notebook? Do they somehow know the contents without needing to memorize them? This sort of "Akashic Tome" knowledge, if leveraged properly and controlled, could be used to make a notebook containing knowledge never before written in it, possibly previously unknown to ponykind, and of timely usage. Twilight would have a field day.
L-Space is the best space.
I can't find my thingservant.
