Flight of Fancy-A MiniStory · 3:05am Jan 29th, 2018
This is kind of an unofficial ministory that I wanted to share. I have it on my tumblr as well if you guys want to go and support it. ^-^ I want to do some shorts and comics here and there to go along with my 'novels.' (They are independent of the main stories, kind of like how the MLP comics and chapter books and such are oftentimes not really canon with the show.) I also have a big change coming up for those later this year (when I get a chance, busy college student here, nothing new about that).

Starry Emerald looked up from her worktable with a sigh. She stretched a bit and took a brisk walk around her shop.
She was almost done with her latest project.
It wasn’t something she was supposed to be doing for work or a friend or anything. She wanted to do something for herself, and it just kept calling to her until she could think of nothing else and wanted to do nothing else.
She picked up her work with her hooves. Feeling the smooth metal with satisfaction and watching the shimmer of the reflected light, she tested out the mechanics of its motion.
Suddenly, she let her mind wander and let the pair of wings clatter back onto her worktable.
They aren’t good enough...
She slumped over and decided it was best to go back home for the night.
The streets were empty. A few clouds were visible in the sky as they covered the beautiful stars above. She thought about...well, it didn’t matter anymore.
She hopped into bed and figured she wouldn’t worry about any of that at all.
But in her dreams, she was flying. Her new wings were flapping along merrily with her laughter. She was soaring around the puffy clouds and imagining them smiling back at her. Her pegasus friends were also flying, somewhere, in the distance.
She thought she could fly by Edgy and play some prank on him. Maybe give him a pet rain cloud for whenever he wanted to shoot down her fun ideas.
She could see Postage Stamp nearby and imagined he was making a new woodcarving just for her, with a mini wooden Starry Emerald proudly showing off her new wings. She would wave and show her admiration for his efforts.
Life would be so beautiful...
She started flying at her fastest speed toward the sun. It wouldn’t melt her spirit. It wouldn’t break her and toss her about. It wouldn’t make her fall. She kept going. The sun seemed farther and farther away, but with increased determination she kept flying and it began to grow.
Soon the light was surrounding her.
The glow was warm and comforting. She finally relaxed. Her new wings went to rest on her sides, and she felt like she was being cradled like a newborn foal.
She thought she saw...her mother?
She felt nothing but happiness and warmth and just closed her eyes.
She woke up.
The sunlight was gliding across her room from her everopen window. She could see the dust particles in its beams.
The wings would still be in her workshop. Still on the table. Limp and lifeless as ever.
