Pony World Problems! · 3:57am Jan 26th, 2018
So, well after the fact, I learn that Aragon is doing a comedy contest. That I've only learned about NOW as opposed to when it first came out. You guys are slacking!
Because seriously, pony comedy is what I do. This could only be more perfect if the prompt were "write a Rarijack screwball comedy" or "write a pony comedy pastiche of a series that very few people on FiMfiction will have ever heard of."
And, as luck would have it, I happen to be writing a comedy RIGHT NOW.
BUT. I ... don't quite think I can shoehorn the prompt into the story. And on top of that, my draft of Murder Most Equestrian is pushing 10k already, and I'm fairly certain I can't wrap everything up in two thousand words. I mean, there's got to be footnotes, people!
The alternative, of course, is to pound a couple beers and hammer out something short and snappy and silly just under the deadline. Which ... is an option, sure!
But dammit I wanna finish this murder mystery pastiche first.
Hey, if it is of any help -- I would be really looking forward to your entry! A really close friend of mine always uses you as an example of "someone who's far better than you at this, you dumbass", and I've pretty much only heard good things about your stories.
So, uh, make an effort, I guess? It'd be cool to have you entering the thing! Lotta authors that are new to comedy in the contest -- and while that's good, I'd like to see some veterans in there too, dang it.
Go for option 2! Flash Sentry can wait, the contest can't. Here's your beers!
I'm just now learning about this contest from you. I'm going to try to enter because it only has to be 1000 words and the prompt is so broad. I figure it's worth a shot.
