First Time For Everything, I Suppose. · 12:30pm Jan 19th, 2018
For the first time in my six years here, I have blocked a follower.
Two things drive me to write fan fiction.
1. My own imagination and inspiration.
2. Reader feedback on existing chapters.
I welcome constructive criticism. But there comes a point where constructive devolves into nitpicking. I'm not sure if this person demands the strictest adherence to established character traits or what, but sweet Celestia... Sometimes I tweak things in the name of creative liberty, and sometimes I throw entire character traits out the window in the name of comedy, a'la Letters. Fucking deal with it.
Nitpick in my highest-rated story's comment section? Fine. Whatever.
Downvote my highest-rated story, knocking it out of the 99th percentile? Rough, but fine.
Adding said story to your "I Give Up" bookshelf, knowing full well I would get an alert? That crosses my line.
I no longer value you as a reader, I no longer value your feedback, so kindly take a long walk off a short pier.
I looked at those comments, and sheesh. Nitpickus maximus.
I disagree that you should block the reader though

The "I Give Up" folder was the breaking point.
No reason that exists other than to show the author disrespect.
Why would you catalog stories you've disliked to such a degree?

Does seem to be awfully passive aggressive.
Leave a comment, state why you don't like it, but putting it in a bookshelf like 'overrated' or 'not worth my time'?
That stings because it's like a constant thorn. A comment saying you're a hack gets downvoted or you can talk about it.
Those bookshelves are a statement, not a discussion.

Took a look at that shelf that my story shares with six others. They are all very highly rated. Not sure what their deal is, but that's what the block button is for.

Well, if his description on his user page is to be believed, he probably didn't mean to come across as offensive as he was.
They have a bookshelf with ove 3k stories on it. Why? I don’t understand why they’re cataloging stories in such a manner.
An "I Give Up" folder? What, does he bear a grudge against your story? If you don't like a story, then move on, or say your piece and then move on. The whole point of Fimfic's bookshelves is so you can go back to a story for whatever reason (read later, like, love, fave, M-rated guilty pleasures, or maybe just stuff you're editing for other people. Making a bookshelf for stories you gave up on is counter-intuitive at best and petty at worst.
I Give Up Folder? This guy must not seem to know that he can make his folder to private setting. At least when you hate on something be subtle about it lol.
