What an incredibly bizarre feeling... · 4:47pm Jan 13th, 2018
I just binged the entirety of DEVILMAN Crybaby, and while the somber tones of the ending where still settling in my brain, I turned on the first episode of Cyborg 009 VS Devilman.
The juxtaposition of sometimes-goofy-looking, action-adventure-seeking, battle cyborgs atmosphere of 009 with heavily-shadowed, angular, blood-squirting and tit-flopping violence that is Devilman is so jarring. The disconnect couldn't have been any more blatant between the two in the very beginning where it swaps between two cyborgs fighting with no blood or wounds other than # marks while switching back to Akira facing down the shell monster that is using an image of his beloved as a shield, which ends in a bloody, dismembering spectacle.
But then again, after a bit of research, the Devilman manga seems a bit more on the corny, monster-of-the-week side.
But then again, damn, that ending... those feels... that action! THAT WONDERFUL STORY! THAT SOUNDTRACK! Even before the first episode was halfway done, I was hooked, but when it was over, I knew the show stuck it's claws deep in me and wasn't letting go. You could say that I was "possessed."
