Familiarity chapter 11 keeps causing problems. I sat down the day before yesterday with the goal of pushing it a bit further to completion, and when I looked everything over I realized I'd made a terrible mistake in the planning.
So, Familiary has been on hiatus for way longer than I hoped it would. Unfortunately, this is not very surprising considering my non-existent work ethic, incredibly fickle muse, short attention span and tendency towards procrastination. Don't get me wrong, when I do write I tend to write quite a lot. I just wish I was capable of being in that mindset for more than just, like, two months a year.
Well, I finished publishing act 1 of Familiarity, but I'm now out of chapters so continuing the previous update schedule is currently impossible. As such I've put the story on hiatus for now. I still don't know how much of act 2 I will bother to write before I continue. Ideally I would like to complete a decent number of chapters and continue like I have so far, but if the writing progress takes
Scootaloo's life changes forever when she meets Fang, a strange magician who is not what she seems. As the two grow closer, secrets are revealed. What does it mean to be a familiar?

The taijitu has actually been depicted with somewhat different designs through the centuries, including - I believe - without the dots. The important thing seems to be the balance between the contrasting parts. The one with the dual "tomoe" and two dots is the "modern" version most people are familiar with.
I find it interesting that this picture is about balance, but the song is about being two-faced. I believe the point in this blog post is that in the story, either you can't trust the ponies that the main character will interact with, or maybe even the main character his or herself is two-faced. I could probably speculate the hell out of this post, so I'll just leave my analysis here.
Also, to answer your question from last time, these symbols usually signify, in the pony universe, maybe cutie marks? I can't honestly remember any symbols in the show that were prominent, and most definitely not in this vein. So maybe these posts are describing characters from the story? Specifically, key attributes of them?
Because I feel that you aren't entirely hinting at themes within the story because too many seem to describe something specific, not something abstract.

Trust and the risks involved in trusting others is kind of a theme, as a matter of fact.

Aha! You figured it out!
They're not all cutie marks specifically, but basically yeah: I'm referencing my characters.
4770128 Good lord, my autocorrect sucks. But anyway, hurray! I kind of knew that you were talking about characters, but I kept trying to guess the story and stuff, which is pretty much impossible. I'm glad I got on the right track towards the end.
TWO!
Missing the dots though.
Without the dots, isn't that the symbol from the Wheel of Time, rather than a proper Yin-Yang?

Ah hah, thank you for the explanation. :)

In the same sense, the songs are basically character themes.
