I... have no words. No footnotes. No clever turn of phrase. Just... just this.
We are better than this. We must be.

While the contents of the blog are scary and make one feel horrible, it is at least slightly comforting how a lot of people immediately jumped in to signal boost the blog as much as possible. It's a tiny thing, sure, but the blog is at 2,5k views right now, and here's hoping it gets higher; this is the kind of thing that NEEDS to be spread around to be effective, and every bit helps.
This is literally community service. Raising awareness is the first step -- and as you said, we must be better than this.
I wrote EQD suggesting they help spread the word. It might help if others do, too. I hope they'll do the right thing and shed more sunlight on this dark spot.
Had something similar happen at A-kon (anime con, ~35000 attending) a few years back. A person was caught putting "something" [popular rumor was ecstasy] into several of the public water containers the hotel would set out so people wouldn't keel over from dehydration during the midnight raves. Security was notified quickly by attendees who saw this, the affected water disposed of, and the authorities given the suspect who con security detained.
The following years the water stations were transitioned from simple high capacity coffee containers to the typical office water fountains with the sealed clear-plastic drum of water on top. (I gather it cost the con more but it would prevent casual tampering)
This has and will continue to happen as long as you get more than two (or twenty thousand) people together, you can only remain vigilant and observant.
It's really disturbing to hear about in any context, but this hits pretty close to home.
