Interrupting Christmas to make an observation · 5:50pm Dec 25th, 2017

It never hit me, until this weekend, how amazingly racist Doctor Who is.

(The series production, writers, and directing, not the Doctor himself/herself.)

There's a rant to be had here, but I've already done it on Twitter, I'm lazy, and it's Christmas, so I'll just link the thread.

You forgot how they portrayed River Song during her brief stint as a young black woman.

You're right bro

not to mention how the Doctor has gone off on the Daleks

Erm. That has....WHAT to do with the topic of this post? >.>;;

4759308 The Doctor came close to killing off the entire race of Daleks. That’s a form of racism, right?

Go back and reread my post please? ^^;;

The series production, writers, and directing, not the Doctor himself

Also, you're sort of missing the context of how the Daleks are the mortal enemies of the Time Lords and they've been trying to annihilate one another for billions of years...which then doesn't really count as racism, because it's an actual war. (Plus, you want to go that route, the Daleks literally want to exterminate all life in the universe that isn't Dalek....)

But the point of this post was to call attention to the real life racism going on with the writers, directors, and producers of the show. THE SHOW.

4759737 I don’t really follow the show, so... *shrugs*

I mean, on the flipside you can kind of argue pretty much every companion gets a killed, but not exactly, sendoff - Rose gets trapped in another universe, Donna's memory is erased, Amy & Rory are trapped in the past and die of old age, Clara dies a ton of different wyas before ending up where she's just cheating her inevitable getting shot to death, and then lastly you have Bill. I mean, Martha is the only primary Nu who companion who doesn't eventually suffer some sort of bad fate because of her association.

I haven't seen a group of black people mauled that badly in a sci-fi thing since Ruby-Spears's Rickety Rocket........

I can only think of one worse example: the infamous ST:TNG season 1 episode "Code of Honor". Pretty much the entire TNG cast resents that episode. Wil Wheaton and Jonathan Frakes have ESPECIALLY spoken out about how rancid the production of that episode was. The episode's director actually got fired mid-production for his blatant racism and was never invited to work on the production again.

All that, and they still actually let a severely racist episode go to air. :facehoof:

I half-way expected Riker to break character and say "Twenty-fourth Century.....you're so racist! What's wrong with you?" like so much Sterling Archer.

On the convention circuit, Frakes has called that episode a "racist piece of shit".

Pretty much because it is. There's a reason Number One had a look on his face that suggested he was waiting for Tarzan to show up: Frakes did too.
