The Mad Seeress of the North - Chapter 17 "Standoff" UPDATE · 8:37am Dec 9th, 2017
Yeah...sorry for the delay in getting Chapter 17 out Monday. It'll go up tomorrow morning. Our lives around here have been preempted by a thing called the Southern California Wildfires. They aren't so close they're threatening us, but my hubby Tale Weaver could see smoke and flames from his work in Westlake Village in Ventura County and smoke was surrounding us on three sides at the apartment the first part of the week.
When you see statistics like, "439 buildings Destroyed in Ventura County, 15,000 homes now threaten in Carpinteria . 115,000 acres burned." (and this was as of YESTERDAY in ONE FIRE ALONE) and that is less than an hour and a half away from you, it's a little DISTRACTING.
When the fire chews through acreage the size of a NATIONAL PARK, it's a little distracting.
When you can see the smoke from SPACE via satellite, it's a little distracting.
(Before and during fires)
When the only thing stopping it in places is the PACIFIC OCEAN, it's a little distracting.
Askre, remember driving over the Sepulveda pass on the 405 freeway from the airport to our house? Yeah, it looked like this:
And THIS image is JUST PLAIN CREEPY in how much it looks like an advancing wall of lava!
I've been pretty calm about it and that's keeping my dementia patient calm, but he's still a little agitated whenever the winds kick up - and boy, I've been here since 1979 and this is the first year the Santa Ana winds were described as reaching "hurricane force" earlier this week. That's definitely note-worthy.
So...with the winds dying down and our poor, exhausted firefighters getting the upper hand on these raging infernos, I will get back to writing as best I can with the holiday shopping madness and our having actual money this year to spend on it.
Keep writing and remember to always
Hail King Sombra!
Sweet merciful crap, that's scary! Why is everything on fire?! O_O
