A question to the fandom · 10:56pm Dec 1st, 2017
Hi everybody. First of all, I hope all of my readers have been enjoying the latest chapter of A Tale of Two Suns today. Please remember to tell me what you think.
Moving on from that, I have a question I'd like to present to the fandom. It's something I've tried to answer on my own, but I haven't had much luck, and I wasn't sure what other places to really ask. But it's something that's been bugging me.
Okay, so we all know Applejack's Aunt and Uncle Orange, right? They're background ponies. I saw the page for them on the MLP wiki once and there was something that caught my eye. Uncle Orange is sometimes referred to as "Mosely" Orange in the merchandise.
Now as we all know, pony names are pun-based. In fact, I'd say 99.95% of character names are pun based (pretty sure that are a slim number of exceptions, even if I can't really think of them off the top of my head).
So when that little factoid about Uncle Orange popped into my head, I decided "hey, why not look it up?" And here's the problem. As far as I can see, "Mosely" isn't connected to oranges, at all. It doesn't seem to be a breed or someone connected to oranges. So, why did they stick him with that name? It's not bad name, but I don't get it.
Am I missing something? Is this actually a pun of some sort or is there actually no meaning to this name whatsoever? If not, that's just bizarre considering the usual trend. Does anybody have any ideas?
My first thought was a 'measley orange' but that seems like a stretch.
Googling "Mosely" yields Sir Oswald Mosely; Mosely, Oswald?
I have no idea ._.

So it IS random. I just don't GET it. Somebody should seriously ask the creative staff why they went with that name.
