5 reasons why Super Smash Bros. is my biggest influence · 3:29pm Nov 29th, 2017

This is and will probably be my favorite saga of all time. But why exactly?

It introduced me to a whole new world

I remember that before knowing about the existence of this series, I only knew 3 franchises: Mario, Donkey Kong and Pokémon. Smash showed me the Nintendo universe and all its possibilities. Although I have not played all the games represented nor do I think I'm going to do it (Animal Crossing, for example, is a game I love to watch, but it bores me when I play it), the vast majority have liked me to the point where I want to know more about their world. I like games such as Zelda and Fire Emblem and I'm a fan of franchises such as F-Zero and Kirby because of this saga.

Meeting your likes can become from the most unexpected sources

This is a personal anecdote. I met the N64 version in 2004 thanks to a friend who invited me to his house, he showed the cartridge to me and we played that afternoon. I haven't seen him in years and he's not my friend anymore (in fact, I don't think he was my friend to begin with), but this experience has taught me that, even from those people you hate the most, something positive can come out and that part of your knowledge, likes and even personality may be due to them.

It inspired me to create

Once Melee arrived, I began to wonder how I could make this same formula with other concepts. Since that game I started to create my own universe with characters from other franchises and concepts for my own taste. Something similar to this.

This in the long run would have a negative effect because, although later I would agree to create my own characters, I couldn't create an original story where to put them. However, I'm able to create my own characters and to this day I still think of that gigantic crossover on my part.

Trust your guts and your instincts, regardless of the limitations

We all know how Smash was created. If the history behind its creation has taught me something, it's that there are times when one must do things for himself, follow his instinct and send to hell what others say. It's like working in a natural reserve and have the law of not getting involved with the animals, even if one is in trouble. But still save an animal from a precarious situation because it's what one is passionate about. I've learned that in real life and I've applied it. The road to travel can be difficult, however if you've passion and constantly remember yourself that like, the reward at the end will be worth it.

It's a story about life itself

Surely you remember this theory.

Although it's only that, the background it tells is interesting and gives the game a point of view that nobody (or very few) had given. If Sakurai confirms this theory someday, it would mean the story of a life made in the most encrypted way possible and it would tell us a story of effort, passion, pressure, maturation and like for what one loves.

This great analysis/documentary expands upon some of my ideas. Enjoy!

My only problem with smash bros is lately they are binging in all types of franchises willy nilly, even anime/final fantasy etc.

It seems like they're idea of something new and original is just add another few already established franchises, rather than innovation with weapons, game play, team matches etc.
