Quick question. · 1:21am Oct 18th, 2012
Hey there everypony, I had a quick question for all you Halo buffs out there. The UNSC uses US Navy ranks, right? including Noble Team? I'm asking because in one quote Colonel Holland (the officer in charge of Noble, above Carter) says "good thing we're Army. But, ranks like Lieutenant Commander don't exist in the Army, so is Noble Team a Naval Unit?
Interesting question...

In answer to your question, the SPARTAN Project was run by ONI, the Office of Naval Intelligence.
So yes, they use Navy ranks.
Hence why Chief is technically Master Chief Petty Officer John-117

Well, yeah SPARTAN-IIs were, but the SPARTAN-III project was started by Colonel Ackerson, the UNSC Army's liaison for ONI, so for all I know, every SPARTAN-III could be a part of the Army, not the Navy.

A quick look on the Halo wikia says the S-III's belonged to the UNSC Office of Naval Intelligence, Beta-5 Division

As far as the Spartans are concerned, yes.

My guess is army/navy had a child it was the UNSC.
Cause space is a sea. But it also has worlds wich are land and they didn't want two armies for it so yeah ..

But I'd say navy more due to chiefs ranks symbol... It has Anchors
