So I killed H.K. in the latest ABBB chapter(For Ever) and I wanted to talk about it. But... it's waay too big of a spoiler for the comments (even with a spoiler tag). Doing this also gives me an opportunity to address a comment I got:
From a comment under ABBB's For Ever(what I will be addressing is the last paragraph):
The dragon definitely is HK, for sure. "You broke your promise!" "You didn't give me the information required to fulfill the promise and let me continue with the misconceptions making it impossible for me to succeed." "S-so? Still your fault!"
Also, where did that white dragon come from at the end? Was that supposed to be him? If so, you never mentioned the color beforehand. Why is The Voice angry(instead of a more appropriate emotion like anguish, which you use later only after you focus on how it's all anger)? Is it a real dragon, I thought it was a spirit?

Now at the very beginning of ABBB RadicalDishonesty asked this question:
This seems like an AU from your previous story? Are all the events and system setup going to be the same, but retold or is this new because there will be similarities to the old canon but differences?
It was a fair question as I was using several characters from that series(Keeper) and at first glance it seemed like I was using the same head cannon on things like the history and magic of the world. And if you had read the Keeper series before ABBB you could reasonably-guess/not-be-surprised by some of what I was doing but not all.
Now RD brought this up in his comment:

Let's look at the 'death' of H.K. from both series to answer.
Part 1
In Keeper H.K. Chooses his Hoard Name and the Alicorn soul 'dies' in the same manner that the hatching/whelp part of a dragon soul would 'die'. This piece would then join The Voice. (Later on in Keeper H.K. as The Voice makes an appearance.)
How Choosing works in ABBB has not even been address yet but what is known is that alicorn H.K. is gone. There is no joining The Voice here... Matter of fact The Voice says his Alicorn soul couldn't survive within him that is was 'burning to ash/nothing.'
Part 2
In Keeper I never "really focused on how the multiple parts of someone were basically different beings so killing one part was a significant death" except when the Curse of The Nameless One was in effect. Which caused Adult dragon losing all of his/her memories at Choosing... and Rage growth which destroyed the sentient half of the dragon leaving only a feral half that was permanently out of control among other things. A normal Choosing was suppose to be and was looked at like a birth not a death, of one coming out of its shell, of a fire now longer contain within a fire ring. It was the same fire only now allowed to do be more then just a small flame.
Also there is no Curse of the Nameless One in ABBB (no Nameless One/Keepers) and I have only made one small hint at but have not yet definitively said what the effects(if any) of having the Voice untethered to the plane.
