Alright, so EQD replied back to my submission. Here what they said.
'Thank you for your submission. However, due to issues with tense consistency, hyphen/dash confusion, and capitalization, it cannot be forwarded to the pre-readers. This does not count as a strike'
So that's not bad. I'm just going to go through it and check for the apparent capitalization problem, but i have no idea what they mean by the hyphen/dash and tense consistency thing, so if anybody could help there, that would be great!
I know exactly what they're talking about and would be more than glad to help you with it!
What they're basically saying is that they don't give two shits and they're not going to let your fic through because they can't even jump up high enough to lower the bar they've set.
426677 Harsh!
But yeah, for the tense situation, you most likely did something similar to this:
Basically, you went from past tense to present tense, or vice versa. It's a common mistake that almost every author makes, and, at least for me, it happens even when you get a little more experienced, so just be careful, and have an editor read over your work looking SPECIFICALLY for that. It helps a lot.
Hyphen Dash inconsistencies... hmm. My guess is it's something like this:
This one is harder for me to explain, because I don't know the actual rule. I think it's basically where you take an adjetive, and add something to it. It links the two words together. Hmm... let's see if I can find a better example for you... AH! Here we are!
Like I said, it's kinda confusing, but I think that's what they're talking about. If that isn't it... then... umm... tits.
427768 Smoooooth.
426677 lol.
427768 thank you, I'll try and fix that, if not for EQD, then for the story itself.
So apparently they have pre-pre-readers now? dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/emoticons/misc_Octavia_O_O.png
429912 lol, that's what i was thinking.

You must think that they are planning to publish all stories (if possible) that are on their sight. Making it simple: they want the fic to be worth the paper. If some second grader send them his fic, it is not going to pass because of all the grammar errors, while as this site only looks at the story line and how it is played out because these guys aren't going to publish anything like EQD.

Hyphens are used to separate clauses from the main sentence and dashes are used to make compound words like twenty-two. Although I have to admit that I only ever use dashes and no hyphens since I usually don't make clauses (well, at least knowingly).

I would think more of pre-pre-pre-prereaders. Simply because EQD has a solid wall of scanning eyes that are all looking for errors, and although they say pre-readers they actually have a wall this more layers than Babylonia had in its time.
