The Unicorn Invasion · 2:09pm Nov 4th, 2017
Here's an interesting article on all things unicorn in the Observer: Why the unicorn has become the emblem for our times.
With this assessment of the state of British politics:
When Scottish Tory leader Ruth Davidson told the Conservative Party Conference a fortnight ago that people “tire of being offered free unicorns”, it was a put-down to Jeremy Corbyn’s policies. But Davidson couldn’t have been more wrong. Right now, people bloody love unicorns.
Where do I get my free unicorn?
According to a YouTuber I subscribe to, being a non-asian in Japan makes you a unicorn. (Someone who stands out from the crowd).
Unicorns aside, how do I become a pegasus ?
I can't help but be bothered by how the image of Twilight is from the show rather than the movie despite its caption insisting otherwise. And the article saying the movie stars two of the celebrity voice actresses.
Aside from that, a thought-provoking look into how trends in fictional creature reflect the anxieties and hopes of society at that time. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
Making a post about unicorns and putting a big picture of an alicorn in the middle.
Seriously, ever since I got into MLP I can't keep from cringing whenever I see or hear the words "Winged Unicorn" somewhere (unless it's in fanfiction with the express purpose of showing the protagonist's unfamiliarity with Equestria and MLP).
4716916 I mean... alicorn traditionally means what a unicorn's horn was made from. So before the advent of mlp:fim it'd be like calling a person a fingernail.
I can haz unicorn?

Put yourself in the position of a journalist, or designer of children's pyjamas... or anyone working in marketing. The wings just make it more rare, more magical, more fantasy... more unicorny. How many customers are going to send back their unicorn because it has wings?
4716919 Apparently you should ask Mr. Corbyn?
4716916 On the other hoof, the book Twilight was reading at the start of S1E1 did call the Princesses "winged unicorns." Apparently it's a recognized term in Equestria.
(One fanfic said it was mostly used by stuffy unicorns eager to say Princess Celestia was one of them, which makes sense.)

....us. We would. Because we want NerdyTwi back.

"Yes? Customer Service? I want to file a complaint about that unicorn you sent me. No. No, my daughter loves it. No, it really is a magical talking unicorn. I'm complaining because it has wings. No. No, I... Listen, I'm not saying that wings on a unicorn are a bad thing. But this one keeps crashing into the ceiling. And the doors. And... never into the bookshelves actually, for some reason. What do you mean 'only just got them'? Oh, and that's not the only thing! Some of the other unicorns in the neighborhood are starting to get jealous. My daughter's treehouse blew up and instead there's now this... this sparkling abomination! Of course my daughter likes it, it sparkles, but our dog almost went blind from looking at it! And don't get me started on all the people in our front yard arguing about whether our unicorn should have gotten wings or not."

I'll call my friends fingernails if I want to.

I think the word 'alicorn' wasn't used at all in the show until the finale of season 3 when Twilight became one. It seems it was a fandom term which was then adopted by the show.

The term first appeared in Magic Duel, in the name of the Alicorn Amulet.
4717102 4717088 Yep, "Alicorn Amulet" was the first usage of the word, but Twilight's ascension was the first time it was used to describe an, ahem, winged unicorn.
An Alicorn is just an equine version of a Pern Dragon.
Let me see if I can find my notes on the power to weight for the flight dynamics and the bone matrix used for modulating the cold fusion flux to create the 4 dimentional ultrawideband projection fields for its magical effects.
