Spoiler Alert! Do not continue on unless you’ve seen the episode/s! If you wish to continue, read at your own risk. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
Hey, all! Welcome to another review of “My Little Pony”! In this review, I will cover “Uncommon Bond”. As I have discussed before, I will lay out the standards of my reviews. If you just want to skip to the break below, feel free by all means. Here are my standards:
· How in-depth I will go into the episode will vary on the impression it made.
· I may refer to stuff almost related to the show. It depends on what I’m reminded of in the episode.
· Some of the references may be unknown to you guys, so I apologize in advance if anything confuses you. I will do my best to clarify what I mean.
· I will list the pros and cons of each episode and then sum it up.
· The last thing I will do is give the episode one or a mix of the following:
o A letter grade
o A percentage
o A number on a scale of one to ten
· I may skip over select episodes due to a low impression or personal reasons. My apologies in advance to anyone I might offend by skipping over an episode they like.
Please keep this in mind so I don’t have to worry about boring you.
Here’s my review of “Uncommon Bond”!
*******
Since this episode was leaked along with “Secrets and Pies” and the finale, I was more anxious to get to the finale. Needless to say, it may have affected my opinion on this episode. That, and schoolwork has sapped a lot of creative energy right now. However, I will do the best I can.
“Uncommon Bond” offers more opportunities to show some chemistry between Starlight and Sunburst. Even though they don’t have much in common as they used to, I can still see them being a couple together. I think the episode did a very good job conveying this lesson: even though old friends grow apart, they can still be friends and find new things to have in common.
I would like to point out a continuity snarl here. The book Sunburst has in his barrel is also seen in Legends of Magic #6. However, the circumstances of how Sunburst boards the train to read it are very confusing. In the comic, he was leaving Canterlot with many books from Star Swirl’s wing; but in the episode, he’s leaving Ponyville with the barrel containing the book. To me, it doesn’t make much sense and makes me wonder one thing: which circumstance is more canon? Considering that the episodes are seen by a large audience, I would say that the episode is more canon than the comic. Before you jump to conclusions on the canonicity of Mage Meadowbrook’s comic story, I would like to say that the story of Mage herself is very canon.
Stray Observations:
When I first read the synopsis for this episode, I had assumed that the friends Sunburst was going to bond with were the Mane Six. Well, I got one out of six right. Still, it surprises me that the rest of the Six aren’t as close to Starlight as Trixie and Maud are.
Here are my pros and cons!
Pros: A good lesson is conveyed here, more moments of proof that Starlight and Sunburst have chemistry, and a good tie-in to the finale.
Cons: This episode was very average. As for the circumstances surrounding the book in the barrel, I’m very confused.
In Summary: “Uncommon Bond” had its highlights and lowlights, but it’s okay in my book. No, I did not just make a pun.
My Rating: B+
See you till my collab review with my sister!

I like that this episode might will lead to the finale, and there is the bonding of Sunburst with Trixie and Maud. And Trixie pulling Maud into the group hug at the end.
And Twilight and Sunburst antiquing, they are so adorkable!
Too bad the show is not using Flash Sentry and/or the FlashLight ship, he could have been there as an outsider to help Starlight as Twilight and Sunburst are antiquing, making a comment like, "I don't actually like doing this, but I just love that smile Twilight gets when she finds something, ." Not sure how it playout for Trixie or Maud, but yeah.

It's amazing how Hasbro is totally fine with Sunburst being Starlight's guy friend that she kind of has romantic chemistry with but let's not go there because she's kind of a main character on a kids' show about friendship, yet Twilight having a similar relationship with Flash is completely out of the question because too many haters. I mean, come on! Fluttershy and Discord have that kind of a relationship, too.
Also, it was nice seeing Starlight on the receiving end of a lesson without inadvertently endangering ponies for once.

Yeah, there have been times Hasbro should have stuck to something.
Granted I am not entirely sure if the Starburst shown in this episode is actually romantic, maybe on Starlight's side may be a bit idealistic view of their past. But yeah.

Didn't Starlight seem a little clingy and maybe even a little possessive regarding Sunburst?

'a little clingy' riiiight. Just a little.
Although it was cute of Sunburst to make an adult pony cosplay/ LARP version of the Dragon's Pit game.
