Peace is a worthy cause. It is a dream that shines brilliantly in the mind, and drives many a great hero throughout history. It is unfortunate, then, that true peace can only be achieved through the darkest of sins.
The destruction of all free will.
That is not to say a facsimile of peace is bad, though. If a large enough group of individuals were to believe times were peaceful, aggression and temptation would be rather low during this time. Not gone, not really, but low enough that life can prosper for the most part, and people can be happy.
This is what we call the Illusion of Peace. With this illusion planted firmly in the hearts and minds of the people, life can be good and fulfilling for those willing to work for it.
The year is 1434 CE, or 434 HE, depending on your point of view. The world has changed greatly since the day Twilight Sparkle became the Princess of Friendship. Magic has all but vanished from the world, and in its place ponies have developed technology to aid them in their everyday lives. On the surface, life is peaceful and content.
But in the shadows, under the blanket of illusion most of society is unaware of, the drums of anarchy and disdain beat steady and strong. Few can see the signs. Fewer understand their meaning.
Only one knows that the Illusion of Peace is about to shatter.
I was on an Assassin's Creed kick for a while, and this was spawned in a fever dream during my most recent cold. I doubt I'll do anything with it, but I'll leave it here just in case.
What'cha think?
Just remember nothing is true, everything is permitted.
There is a great Assassin’s Creed inspired story in my favorites called Harmony’s Creed. No link because it is rate M. Definitely check it out if you want a great read.
