The Movie was Amazing · 5:00pm Oct 25th, 2017
I mean I'm a sucker for pretty cartoon movies with fun songs, and I that's only increasing as I get older and give less of a shit what other people think about me.
Right, like anybody's going to judge me for that here. Anyway, spoilers below the cut.
I'm not one for rigorous analysis, but the thing I think I liked most about the movie is how dark it is. Equestria is portrayed as a tiny little bubble of hope and happiness in an otherwise crapsack world full of lawless border towns, abandoned empires, and conquering warlords. The fanfic possibilities are *endless*. Its also interesting that Twilight seems so much weaker in the movie than she is in the series. I mean, in real life, that's so that she doesn't just curb stomp the Storm King and make the movie thirty minutes long. But I like the idea that the princesses draw their power from Equestria itself, and if they're outside of it or if Equestria is compromised somehow, they lose a lot of their power.
Anyway, there's something else I really liked about the movie.
As little shame as I have*, I would never have dared make up such a dark, emo, badass OC. People would think I was a fourteen year old with ego issues. But now Tempest is here, she's canon, and oh sweet fucking Faust am I going to write about her. Her power, her disability, her secret vulnerability. Unf. And I also think she's a great ship for Twilight.
She has a lot in common with Twilight — she's emotional yet organized and tightly controlled. She's extremely powerful, but dependent on and trusting of authority. She has a strong sense of justice, but also a certain ethical flexibility. But, as a soldier, she's also very different from Twilight in her abilities and interests.
I've wondered over ships for Twilight. Shiny is my favorite, obviously, but it's hard to be emotionally realistic about loving, consensual brother-sister incest, and I don't really want to break him up with Cadey and Flurry, so that ship is doomed to be only in silly kinky clopfics.
Rainbow Dash is too anti-intellectual for Twilight. Starlight is too similar a character, it would basically be Twilight dating herself. Discord is too much of a jerk. Pinkie, Celestia or Luna would work too well to make a good story, and I consider most other ships for Twilight pretty crack. Not that that's ever stopped me, mind you.
Tempest, though? Different but same. Same, but different. I'm already outlining an erotic romance for those two.
Oh, I also now ship Pinkie and Skystar. It's just too obvious. They are SO GAY in their song together.
*Actually I have tons of shame, but that really doesn't come out on HERE.
I'd say there is textual support for this. In the movie and the prequel comics, when the villains talk about why they want Equestria, it seems like they are treating magic as a resource Equestria has in abundance, but which is rare and valuable elsewhere. Might explain why ponies are such valuable, sought after slaves, and why there are horn merchants.
Honestly, I never found Twilight really shippable. Mostly had passing interests, like when I noticed that Flash and Moondancer are both counterparts to Shining and Twilight, got the idea that a) they're also siblings and b) could team up to woo Twilight together.
She's rather cute with Sunburst in the latest episode tho.
SkyPie OTP. NovoLestia is an intriguing concept also.

Yes!
I noticed that! Speaking of dark! I thought the horn merchant was gonna be Fizzlepop's backstory, but apparently that would have been TOO dark.
Whoa. Hot.
The thing with Twilight, I think, is that she's essentially the show's main character, and she's had loads more canon character development than anypony else. There are fewer gaps to fill in, and a lover has pretty big horseshoes to fill.
Really like TwiPest though. Brainstorming like crazy about it.
I did not intend it that way.
If you say so? I have the opposite problem, I find her bland and boring.
24 hours of FizzleSpark ideas:
There’s one line in the prequel that I feel is important: when discussing bad luck, Tempest says “I don’t believe in it. Every bad thing that happens is someone’s fault.” She wouldn’t immediately lose that attitude. Twilight with her forgiving attitude is really vulnerable, she needs to be protected.
Tempest might need a good cry early on. With someone to hug her. She might fall asleep (I know my depression hits hardest in the evening). They both might. Twilight might not let her be alone with herself in the dark anymore.
Later Twilight comes to her friends "Girls, I think I might have a girlfirend, WHAT DO I DO?" I like relationships that happen a bit “out of order”.
Is she from Ponyville or just somewhere close by? I mean it’s near the Ursa cave.
Sha hasn’t been ‘home’ in many years. She didn’t believe in home for many years.
Twilight could give her a home again.
With her main spell being fireworks, her cutie mark could be similar to Twilight’s. Twilight got hers after a destructive eruption of uncontrolled magic after all. There's a connection there.
(You can just picture the grimdark fanfic where Twilight blows up her horn in childhood and ends up becoming Tempest.)
You have to admit, Fizzle has to be the most well-built mare Twilight knows. Her athletic/combat prowess is really up there, but she has mostly a normal frame, not like some muscled tanks. Twilight needs to control her wings watching her exercise/train.
