He's not talking about the actual seasons themselves, just the behind-the-scenes and how much creative freedom they had. I guess you can correlate that with the seasons' quality, but the reason he left wasn't because of the writing of the later seasons.

I'm still a little baffled that people were so distraught about Fame and Misfortune. If I acted like one of the crazies (re: recent Rick and Morty McDonald's garbage) I'd be angered by having that mirror held up, but I don't. And I don't think most of us do, so it's weird to me.

That said, I fully agree with Larson's critique and his version does sound way better.
